for me it depends on the movie or disc content.... Like I just recently upgraded my copy of Dr. Giggles so that I could finally have it in Widescreen... others I will upgrade from a regular release to a Special Edition if I really enjoyed the movie.

Depends on the movie, only would do this for "new" content (Director's Cut, unrated, etc.).
Last was a version of Hellraiser which is supposed to be 3 min. longer, had no time to see it til now.

another question to add on, when you do double dip, do you end up keeping both copies or does it depend on what the new version gives? Like, some movies i'd consider double dipping on have a different cut, but if they dont also include the original cut i'd probably keep both when\if i bought the new version.

Most double-dips involve discs upgraded from movie-only releases to Special Editions, so there is no need to keep two versions.

This is what I do as well.

I voted Never, but that's not 100% true.  I've never double dipped on DVD unless I was picking up a boxset where I already owned something in the box.  If it's cheaper to get the boxset, then I'll go that route since it's cheaper.  For example, I owned Vertigo, Rear Window and Psycho.  Then I bought the big Hitchcock box sets that contained those movies.  But it was to get the other movies, not to double dip.

I've also made a couple exceptions now with HD DVD.  I double dipped Batman Begins on purpose because I wanted something to compare against my old DVD.  I also double dipped on the Matrix collection because I got in on the pricing mistake at Circuit City (the Matrix Collection on HD DVD for $20  )  I also double dipped on a few on my 5 free movies.  But those were free, so I don't count them.

I'm sure I'll double dip on a few HD DVDs (the really big titles), but for the most part, I plan not to.

i will for a special edition if there is a significant addition of content, or if the movie has been recut for addtional scenes.

another reason i've double-dipped in the past was to replace nonanamorphic (grrr!) widescreen copies for enhanced versions since i got my widescreen tv. fortunately some of these, like To Kill a Mockingbird, also include significant additions to the bonus material, which i enjoy watching.

old versions are stacking up in the closet, some because there is different content, others because i'm too lazy to do anything with them.

and some because i don't want to lose those isolated scores...can we say alien...

But bought Serenity when it was released, later bought the Finnish release for the Finnish subs. Also have Jurassic Park III 2 times, cause i bought it first and bought later a triple pack that was cheaper then buying 1 & 2 separatedly.

Also i've been wanting to buy Battlestar Galactica's Finnish release for the finnish subs. But distributors here are bastards, and cant trust them to release also seasons 3 and 4 later.
