Latest from Vaiety. It appears that Jackson and New Line have resolved their differences and The Hobbit is ON.

Yeah! I was      all around when I read that piece. Couldn't count on anyone else doing justice to The Hobbit except good ol' P.J.

P.S.: Can't wait for the movies to come out now

Fantastic news

EDIT: I see that they plan a sequel to the Hobbit. Not so sure I like that though (unless the divide the book in two. Hopefully that's what the meant about a sequel)

From what I read they are either going to split the movie into two parts or use various notes and ideas from Tolkien and his son.

Good god, two movies and when was the last time you saw anything Jackson was connected with come in at under 3 hours?  If they stretch the Hobbit out to 6 hours I'm expecting to see how Bilbo was conceived.  Excalibur, anyone?

As was pointed out above, I think the basic idea will be for the first movie to cover The Hobbit in it's entirety.  The second movie is meant as a bridge between The Hobbit and the other LoTR movies.  I'd imagine it would mostly come from Tolkiens other stories, footnotes, and expansive appendixes for stories to bring the whole series together.  Jackson already did something similar in the original trilogy if I remember correctly.  I think most of the love story stuff between Aragon, Arwen, and Eowyn was mostly all taken from these other places as they weren't that detailed in the original books.

As this point, after what he's done already, I trust Jackson completely.  If he's saying the story he wants to tell needs to be broken into 2 movies then do whatever it takes to give this man his 2 movies.

Thanks for the news, Skip. ...and thanks for the link, Martin.

I never read any of the books () but the LOTR films are among my all-time favorites, so I am sure looking forward to this too.
