I have never seen a more blatant attempt at poisoning the well than the article's opening sentece...

What an absolute nothing to both report and to post here.  What is the point, except to get comments such as 8Ballmax's and Hal's?  Lets be a little more grown up.

You are not required to read anything on this forum.

Just because it is "an absolute nothing" to you does not mean it is an absolute nothing to others.

In my opinion, she is a despicable human being and a traitor to her country.  She had a DIRECT impact on me during my service during the Viet Nam War.

Growing up is something she should have done a long time ago!

Perhaps you are unaware of the fact that the FCC (Federal Communications Commission) forbids the use of this word (and a number of other words) on the PUBLIC airways in the U.S.

Whether you agree that they should or not is irrelevant.  They are forbidden.

This is just another example of her blatant disregard of the accepted rules of behavior during a daytime TV show on network television where children were undoubtedly listening in.

If this had happened on a cable channel, it would be a non-event.  Parents have the ability to block this kind of language if they so choose when it is on cable or satellite.  There is an expectation that they do not have to monitor network television because certain rules are in place.....for everyone except Hanoi Jane apparently.

And there is at least one of us who feels differently. I've met her twice, both times with her then husband Tom Hayden.

I find her facinating -- every oddball, misguided minute of her life, and every near-genius piece of acting that she has shown to be capable of performing.

With every husband she took, she became the "ideal" wife -- bending to each husband's whims and preferences in women. Sex kitten to Roger Vadim, social/antiwar activist to Tom Hayden, getting breast enhancement surgery for Ted Turner. I think she is incapable of defining her identity without someone to guide her, and when she becomes who she thinks she ought to be, throws herself into the role without hestitation, nor awareness of what she is doing. Her personality remains faddish, whether following a trend of setting one.

Good, bad, evil? I leave that to others... but facinating, always.
If it wasn't for bad taste, I wouldn't have no taste at all.

Actually, it's the broadcaster's responsibility to comply with those rules, not random guests on talk shows. She should have been bleeped out, yes. But she certainly did nothing criminal; offensive, perhaps, given the time slot, but if she assumed that the broadcaster was fulfilling its legal obligation, who is truly at fault?

Despite Jane Fonda's little "rhymes-with-hunt" moment, NBC says it has no plans to guard against similar morning emissions in the future.

A "Today" show rep said, "It's a news show. There is no tape delay, and there won't be a tape delay."

And on "Good Morning America," where Diane Keaton infamously dropped an F-bomb on Diane Sawyer, they've got no plans to delay at all.

As for CBS' "Early Show," they're also live, says a rep, and won't be using a delay.

And many press organizations called the FCC to see if they'll be penalizing NBC or requiring a tape delay because of Citizen Jane's slip, but so far, not a peep (or a bleep).
If it wasn't for bad taste, I wouldn't have no taste at all.

I don't agree that the FCC's stance on this is irrevelant. The only reason it is 'news' (if you can call it that) is because the FCC forbids it. In the context of the transcript, I don't beleive the word is a dirty word. She was asked a question about 'The Vagina Monologues' (will edit the word if people feel it is inappropriate to post) and she responded with her reason, a specific monologue she was asked to do, and the title of that monologue happened to be the naughty word. I'm sure she didn't even realize that she said one of the '7 dirty words you can't say on tv' (spot the reference) until after she had completed her sentance, if that.

I could go into detail on my personal views of 'dirty words' but i'll leave that for another time (if you get the above reference, i think you'll be able to mostly figure it out)

The fact that she will not be held personally liable by the FCC is completely beside the point!

If she had used the title as you quoted above, there would not have been a story.

But she didn't.  She deliberately used the C-word instead.  I don't believe for a minute that (a) it was a mistake or (b) she did not know it was on the "list" or (c) she didn't know there is no delay used on the show.

did you read the article? look at the transcript from the show. 'The Vagina Monologues' is a play. This play consists of multiple monologues. She was asked to do a monologue for this play. the title of the monologue she was asked to read was said c-word.

Here is an excerpt from the transcript:

MEREDITH VIEIRA: I know when it started there were some A-list celebrities who came out to help you, but Jane, you at first were not a big fan of the play. So what turned you around?

JANE FONDA: Well, it wasn’t that I wasn’t a big fan. I hadn’t seen the play. I live in Georgia, okay? I was asked to do a monologue called "c-word." and I said "I don’t think so, I got enough problems."

So in the context of the word it is the title of the monologue she was asked to do, therefore there is nothing dirty or obscene about it (maybe rude, but not obscene)

NOTE: the bold is by me and I edited the actual "bad word" to be appropriate to all.
