Sounds like you have some kind of adware that got installed.  You might want to try installing and running some kind of adware detector.  There's several out there, but this is the only one I'm familiar with and I use myself:  Ad-Aware 2007

Just googled it.
Description can be found here.
For removing this you can use either AdAware as Vega recommended
or  Spybot Search and Destroy

EDIT: Is it a known problem that you can't put two links into one line?
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

Yes, even with the other tags it can be sometimes problematic, don't know why however.

The invelos website is hand-knitted and the Regular Expressions Ken uses aren't perfect.

I had this and couldn't seem to get rid of it either!  I tried about 6 different removal programs!

In the end I had to go back a couple of restore points and this did the trick... caused no end of registry issues but at least the pop ups stopped.

Good luck!

In Spybot enable the advanced mode via menu "mode -> advanced mode", then in the left part of the program window change to "Tools" then to "Systemstart" (or similar) if it's not activated yet enable it by checking the box on the center window.
In "Systemstart" check for red marked entries and disable them.  If you click on the arrows on the right side of the center window you'll get information about the entries in your startup list.

After doing so do the same with "ActiveX" and "BHO" (Browser Helper Objects)
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!

Glad to hear that's sorted out.

Now that you've got Spybot running you can immunize your system against most of such threats. By clicking the "Immunize" button you are protected against many malware downloads automatically.
Remember to update the malware-signatures about once a week and you can feel a lot safer.

Try booting into Safe Mode and then scanning.  That'll catch all but the meanest SOB's.  If you have a mean SOB, it's almost best to simply reformat.  You can check by trying a system restore, if you can't, it's a mean SOB.

A lot of AV programs that you purchase in a store has a CD that you can boot from and then scan - it's the only way to be sure you prevent any programs from starting up and hiding themselves from scans.
