If I can't find anybody, I sell them in 2nd hand shops for even less money. In switching I only replaced movies that would really benefit from being in HD. In those cases, I've tried to sell the movies to friends.
But for the rest I intend on keeping them. Any decent hi-def player you purchase also will do up-scaling (if connected using HDMI) of your standard DVDs. It's not quite as good as a real BD or HD-DVD version of the movie, but good enough for me. I've actually been doing the same kind of thing. I've been getting HD versions of movies I don't own yet (depending on price), with the exception of Die Hard. I actually had the trilogy and I went into BuyBacks and they had the Die Hard Collection for $42, which is a steal, since it retails anywhere from $90-105. The movies I did sell though are ones I hardly watch and I figure are taking up space. | | | We're on a mission from God.

I have already sold approx. 600 DVDs(!) - mostly for the reason that I don't need them anymore, but several dozens also for the reason that I'll have to replace them with HD anyway. The must-be-replaced movies include "2001: Space Odyssey", "Fountain", "Sunshine" and other visual treats + some of my (other) all-time favorites. Those will be sold as soon as I have completed my switch to HD... | | | Mika

It is illegal to sell a dvd, either new or used without the dratted Quebec sticker. While I do keep the hated thing, many of the discs I own are purchased while I am out of the province or even the country. THEREFORE the ones with the dreadful stickers I sell to local used DVD dealers, the rest I share out among various family. |

| | Posted: | | | | It will be a movie by movie issue for me, but I'm sure I'll keep at least 85-95% of my dvds. Some things scream for hd, some it don't matter and some just aren't worth buying again as the dvds don't even get played now.
One thing I'm noticing as I see more BR discs in stores is that there's no sense in buying them now anyway, as many strip all the extras from the dvds. Fior instance, I've bought Predator 3 times now (vhs/first dvd/2 disc SE from UK). Now I see it on BR with no extras, so ytou know that BR SE is coming sometime down the road. Same with Kingdom of Heaven. The director's cut is out on BR, with none of the extras from the 4 disc set (maybe a commentary track, but I'm pretty sure that was missing too). It's the same thing that has happened with dvds and I'm not falling for it again.
I did just get a BR/HD drive on my new computer so I'm half-tempted to start getting BR's, but haven't yet. |

| | Posted: | | | | Not 1080 P, Randall. Max upconvert is 1080 I. 1080 P is the current "True Hi-Def" image, there would be no need for BD or even the now defunct HD-DVD IF the upconvert could match the standard.

My PS3 can upconvert dvds to 1080i and mostly that is what I've been doing. Right now out of my total collection of about 600 dvds, I have a total of 5 BD movies. I've also been looking for sales and all the BD movies I do have, with the exception of the "Die Hard Collection," I bought on Amazon.com with my Prime membership. I've also been reading the reviews on Hi-Def Digest, before I do buy. | | | We're on a mission from God.

Also that goes for the new titles. I don't think many of the TV shows merit the bother.

I'd give them away to my own kids but they're too good for standard def  For years I tried to get them interested in the hobby and then my oldest bought a 1080p TV. Now they both buy nothing but HD or Blu. DVD Snobs! |
