| | Posted: | | | | it seems as though my issues and stability are both worse now then a year ago, i can no longer tolerate this operating system any longer. Tomorrow I am getting a fresh copy of XP (while I still can) and will be rocking that.
I am now seriously considering a mac - and this program is one of my only obstacles...
thoughts? suggestions? other users who care to vent about vista?

| | Posted: | | | | If you own an official copy of Vista, MS is obligated to provide you an activation key for XP. Basically, this means you just have to borrow the media from somebody. The catch is, you have to activate over the phone as MS is not surprisingly all that eager for folks to downgrade. |

I use this: VMWare FusionAdditionally, when needed you could boot windows-only with Boot Camp (supposedly faster on a Mac than on other computers...!). And as you have a free copy already, all you'll need is VMWare... Go for the Mac!
DVD Profiler was also the last thing that held me up.

I suggest that too. I made the switch about half a year ago, and I'm totally happy with my iMac  I run DVDP on XP in a VMWare virtual machine and DVDP is the ONLY reason why I still have that VM. I'm not using any other Windows application anymore. |

| | Posted: | | | | I've been a Linux user for a couple of years now (I'm a strong fan of open source) and I'm really glad I made the change. Can't compare with Mac, but I hear both the Mac and Linux groups of users constantly saying how happy they are as compared to when they used Windows.
One benefit of Linux is that because it's free, you can easily give it a test drive for a few weeks before committing. To make it even easier, you can do it using a virtual machine as some others have mentioned for running XP on Mac (I use the free VMWare Player to run alternate operating systems).
If you've not used other operating systems, it's a bit of a shock to realize how different the philosophies can be, and you're always going to have a bit of a learning curve. I'd suggest putting a toe in before taking the plunge, so virtual machines is a good way of doing it. Don't know if Mac does a trial version (I doubt it), but if it does, make use of it!

just go back to XP (or Mac) and be happy, don't worry That is your opinion, and that is fine. But just don't consider it to be a universal truth. I'll take Vista over XP and Mac at any time... | | | Regards

| | Posted: | | | | Same here Pantheon. I run Vista on my laptop and XP Pro on my 4 other computers at home and XP Pro at the office. I can say from my perspective that both the VISTA and XP OS have been extremely stable. I have been a Microsoft OS user from the days of DOS 2.0 and can say that even though not all were bug free... They were all very reliable and for me, user friendly. I was also an Apple user back in the mid to late 90's and had found many versions to be glitchy SYSTEM OS releases that caused the MAC to lockup with system errors and then the fatal bomb. Then there would be another release to address the errors and there be a few more errors and some would be fixed. Sure all systems have issues. But MAC users share the same issues as Windows users do. I will say though the MAC OS is a pretty nice looking interface with whatever version the latest OS is and I doubt with the flashy pizaaaz it has now that it is not completely free of bugs. On the contrary, my XP system has crashed after attempting to install SP3, and I have not been able to fully recover (would need a clean install on an empty partition, and I don't want to loose e.g. my email archives).

And I have had no problems with Vista either ... but I did have tons of problems with XP. I even have Linux on my 2nd Hard Drive (just switched from Fedora to Ubnutu) and Vista works better than even Linux does. It wound up being a defective DVD-Rom. I swapped out the DVD drive, ran Vista Repair and now it runs very well. No problems since.
