| | Posted: | | | | I've noticed that again and again, when I've been looking forward to a title from before 2000 slated for the week, it appears neither at Borders nor at Best Buy nor at Barnes & Noble nor at the local mall store (name escapes me, it's affiliated with FYE). For instance, last week there was a slew of what were called Martini Movies (silly name), including The Anderson Tapes with Sean Connery. Haven't seen a copy yet. Has anybody? How about the Fox Film Noir releases a couple weeks back? How about that handful a few weeks back including Serial, Houdini, Money from Home (Martin & Lewis)? What about the recent trio of Yul Brynner titles including Taras Bulba? Has anyone else noticed these movies' absence from the shelves?
I haven't noticed this so much with TV series, but come to think of it, there have been a number of recent releases which I haven't seen in brick & mortar stores: Honey West and Burke's Law in particular. Hm, I didn't notice even Friday the Thirteenth at Best Buy yesterday.... |

| | Posted: | | | | I've noticed the same thing but it seems to depend more on the studio. Most Warner stuff seems to make it to shelves. Regardless, if you're into catalog titles then online ordering is the only real option. |

| | Posted: | | | | I work at a Borders and they've been cutting down and what they'll send us. Where we used to get 50-100 new titles on a Tuesday, now we're lucky if we get 10-15. (Granted, I'm in a smaller, rural market, but still...). We did get the Friday the Thirteenth one, though. I think it's more to do with economy. Is it really worth it to the store if they're only going to be selling a few, especially since a lot of these are more niche markets than mainstream releases? We can order a lot of these titles, though...check with the local salespeople. They're more than willing (most of the time, lol), to help out. Borders offers a free ship to home as long as the warehouse has it available for this feature and it's always free to ship to your local store. | | | | Lori |

You won't find Anderson Tapes on any shelf in our area as of last Friday. HOWEVER, it is available for from your friendly neighborhood Border's (Columbia) and they will get it for you quickly, I am picking mine up in the AM.

| | Posted: | | | | Most film distributors buy shelf space from the brick and mortars. If they think something will sell well (eg Sex in the Ciy) they buy a ton of space. Something they are not sure of they do not buy space for and it is relegated to online. |

This wouldn't be so bad except I see such utter 21st Century dreck on shelves which could be put to so much better use. Check Best Buys web page. You'll find a lot of films there you will never see on the shelf. When I cannot get my hard to find DVDs there, I pick them up at dvdempire.com |

Wait, they actually remake movies? Say it isn't so!!!  Here is the real kicker. I have never seen any of the Oceans. What is even funnier is I saw the Original Boure with Tom Selek if I remember right but never the remake. I do not so much mind remakes as long as they are well done. There are some I will not see as it would ruin the mystic of the original. Lets face it, we are voracious for content which means Hollywood has no choice but to make remakes to keep up with our appetite. If we were to demand quality and be willing to wait for it we would see fewer remakes and better films. Just my opinion. |

| | Posted: | | | | Borders has been decent in regards to the boxsets from Warners and Fox that the B&M stores haven't been carrying. I tend to head there (after checking my local Costco and BJ's Warehouse) for any boxset not available at Best Buy. Always with a coupon, of course. |
