I really enjoyed it when I saw it 2 weeks ago (Wow, a film that opened in the UK first.... that is a rare event these days) What do you all think of it? | | | Signature? | | Posted: | | | | I really enjoyed the film. I went with my best friend on opening night. I was disappointed to arrive at a half full theatre that was mostly teenagers. A lot of texting during the film. I was also sad to see 007 return to the signiture PPK of old. I was hoping they would leave him with the HK and its superior round. I liked the way way they went back to his quirky puns and the relationship they built between him and M. I was not happy that this film seemed to just be a bridge to the next one though. | | Posted: | | | | I enjoyed it as well, but I'll echo Voltaire53's sentiments with regards to the fast-cut editing and close-up camera work in the action scenes. I understand that the producers need to cater to a young demographic, but it was a bit too much for my taste. And indeed: exactly because of those editing choices and the close-up camera work, it may well work a bit better on the small screen. Other than that: I'd like to have seen a little bit more of Gemma Arterton - I felt she was given too little screen time.
My tips for Bond 23: a little, just a little bit less of that "hip" editing, let's re-introduce Moneypenny and Q, and the occasional quip would be nice. All those deadly serious looks, those deeply-hurt people and "big" themes like trust and revenge are perfectly fine, but a little more actual fun wouldn't go amiss. And also, while I like David Arnold's work and hope he stays on, I'd like him to increase the use of the Bond theme thoughout the film just a tad. I fully understand (and agree!) that it doesn't need to blare out of the speakers for the full two hours, but I'd enjoy it if it was woven into the score just once in while. |

| | Posted: | | | | Having thought some more of the kermode review, what I do agree is that: Spoiler: (Select to view)Nobody seemed to be hurt. For instance there was one scene where Bond was cut in the hotel room - 5 mins later - no blood/cut etc. Thats what I call fast healing!
And Gemma's acting - wooden isn't the half of it. even seeing her oiled body didn't excite me! | | | | Paul |

I saw an interview with David Arnold and the reason the bond theme isn't used is because: Spoiler: (Select to view)As this was Bond in training, he hadn't earned the theme yet, which is why it was never used in Casino Royale. So the introduction of the theme at the end of this film is a way of introducing the fully-formed Bond. |

What do you all think of it? Saw it Sunday. First, let me say that I think Daniel Craig is the best Bond of all of them, including Connery. Don't get me wrong, Sean Connery was great and is one of my favorite actors, but Craig is much closer to the way Ian Fleming wrote Bond and I prefer that character to the one that Hollywood created over the last 20 years. I thoroughly enjoyed QoS, and I had no trouble following the plot at all. There has been a lot of blather on Chicago radio the last couple days about it, and a bunch of self-styled critics have been panning it. Never mind that it has been packing people in in droves... | | | John

I think I just wasn't in the right mood for it, and I was a little disappointed that the trailer for the new Trek film wasn't on at the beginning  I'd heard that it was, and that's partly why I went to watch Bond, is it just in the US that it was?
