| | Posted: | | | | Here in Norway when "serious" sound and picture magazines test BD players, they also test how long loading time the disc/player has. They get minus points fr long loading time, which I concider bulls***. Anyone with their right mind knows that depends on whats encoded in the disc, we have BD releases in Norway that doesn't have Javamenues either. I personally don't care how long time it takes before you put the disc in the tray before the movie starts. If you're gonna spend 2 hours to watch a movie, you can also wait 40-60 seconds before it starts. Anyone else have tought about this? | | | "What's God?"

| | Posted: | | | | My Toshiba HD DVD player (equivalent to Blu-ray ) takes well over a minute for the 'tray' to open- once I hit the power button/open.., Why so long?? Nothing to do with the Hi-def Disc but the player is like a personal computer. and we all know how long that takes to powerup/or reboot and then go to desktop with all app's running and in place., also well over a minute.

It is faster on a PS3, but PS3 is a game consol, and therefore have more "power" than standalone BD players. And yet again, it depends whats encoded to the disc, menus, etc. I tested 4 og my BD's from different companies, and on my Panasonic DMP-BD50 the average loading time from tray is closed to the movie starts, where you can press PLAY the first time (including skipping commercials etc) it took about 50-60 seconds. The only disc I had issue with and so did everyone else, is when Iron Man came out and needed to download the updates first, but that is very rare. | | | We're on a mission from God.

But again, I don't care if it takes 10 or 60 seconds before the movie starts Sony BDP-550. I also have an LG Super-Multi-Drive installed in my computer. I've never experienced a Blu-ray taking longer than 20 seconds to load on either of those, and both have the most current firmware. The LG drive is perhaps a little quicker since it has the full PC power behind it. | | | | Corey |

If the "testers" have just ONE disc they use, it would be correct, but they never state what disc they use in those testing seanses, so I take those tests with a big load of salt. Again, some discs has Java menus, some don't (Nordisk Film i.e) and they load faster. | | | "What's God?"
