| Posted: | | | | Pardon me while I get my soapbox.
Some contributors are taking a “No” vote far too personal. There is nothing personal about a vote for me, a no vote is nothing more than pointing out an error.
How hard is it to go back, correct the error and resubmit?
I have read, I have spent so much time on a contribution, if it gets rejected I’ll not resubmit.
Sometimes it takes a lot of time to do a good job.
So, if it gets rejected then there is not any data put into the database.
If it does get accepted, then bad data goes into the database.
Again, I say just how hard is it to correct the errors that are pointed out and resubmit.
Okay, I’m off my soapbox now.
Thanks, Jim | | | Jim

| Posted: | | | | You're quite right. What sometimes helps with less experienced users is either to send a PM before voting, asking to correct the error and resubmit, or to include in your notes accompanying the No vote something along the lines of "Please correct the error and resubmit, the rest is OK". |

Thanks, Jim Absolutely, Jim. I have seen the same thing. Then there are the the lame Contribution notes that tell NOTHHING but that people are willing to accept. Part of this comes from the idea that good enough is good enough. In short, somebody else fix it. Skip | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! CBE, MBE, MoA and proud of it. Outta here

| Posted: | | | | I think a lot depends on how a no vote is explained. I've also been contacted by no-voters and whether or not we had the same views, we've always been able to remain civilized and explain our views. In most occasions I even thank the no-voter for sharing his thoughts and correcting my mistake.
There are rare exceptions to that rule of course, but in general, I don't feel that a no vote is a personal attack and 99% of the time I admit I was wrong and resubmit with corrected data. | | | Blu-ray collection DVD collection My Games My Trophies | | | Last edited: by Taro |

| Posted: | | | | I think there has been an improvement in this (at least from my experience)... but there is still every once in a while that someone takes a no vote personally. Whenever it seems someone takes it personally I try to explain it to them. Which works most the time... but there is still times they just get mad and not respond. | | | Pete |

A NO vote in and of itself is not a personal or any other kind of attack. But I have definitely seen a few of them wrapped up in an attack. |

| Posted: | | | | I know I'm new around here, but I've gone as far as to PM a person and tell them why I think that their contribution broke the rules and give them a chance to either fix it or convince me otherwise before I actually place my 'No' vote. |

| Posted: | | | | While I agree with the sentiments here...I have seen enough rude NO votes to understand why some contributors take it personally.
Also - there have been occasions when the NO vote has been totally wrong and the voter is the person who then gets bent out of shape when they are pulled up on it.
Everyone votes thinking they are correct according to their interpretation of the rules. That is not always the case and there are some people who simply will not budge from their viewpoint; until proven wrong by Invelos.
That said - a simple PM from contributor/voter asking for further details is always a good thing IMO. |

Recently(ish) I had a PM in response to a No (from someone I didn't realise was a new contributor when I No voted) saying they didn't understand my reasons for the No so I expanded them in a PM pointing to the pertinent (TV) section of the Rules and they were more than happy to re-submit. I agree that, sometimes, whatever you do people will take it personally but usually a polite PM will sort out a lot of problems. | | | It is dangerous to be right in matters where established men are wrong |

I recently had that. After one of my contributions was already accepted I noticed a NO-vote (probably a vote just before acceptance, otherwise I'd have seen it before) and PM-ed the voter explaining in more detail why I had left the Media Company field open, just so that he wouldn't think I ignored his vote. I first got a rude return-PM and when I responded to that explaining once again, I got PM-blocked (Granted, in my second PM I díd point out that it was no skin off my back if the voter wanted to devaluate his vote by persistent incorrect voting ) Anyway, me, someone who always try to look for consensus and mutual understanding, now has his own personal PM-block Just goes to show you, some people can't be reasoned with, no matter how hard you try. |

| Posted: | | | | There is one well known user (whose name begins with Trin) who blocks everyone who sends him a PM explaining why his NO vote is wrong; or anyone who votes NO on one of his contributions.
I've even had him resubmit with a statement in his contributions notes that 'Pantheon is a total wan*er so please ingore his no vote'.
Nice! |

Nice! I've not had anything quite as strong as that but I have had things along the lines of "Forget_the_Rest's No vote is a violation of the rules and should be ignored." On one contribution, it was resubmitted about 6 times before it was actually understood that the No vote was justified & the contribution corrected! __ On No votes that sound harsh, while some may be, what I think is often the case is that due to the relatively short field length, people often have to try to condense what they're trying to say down which can inadvertently change the tone trying to be conveyed. |

I agree that this can be part of the problem. There is only so much you can do with the limited space in that field. | | | Pete |

Nice! Ay, that was a reminder I didn't need... This guy has been a real Tasmanian Devil with many Finnish profiles, but recently his voting "weight" seems to have been lowered considerably. In one of my contributions a month or two ago - correcting a profile he had ruined - there was only one vote, his negative of course, but it got through nonetheless. | | | Mika I hate people who love me, and they hate me.
