Hello,

I have recently been submitting cover scans and descriptions for some DVDs I have which are missing them (and some occasional basic info) but often they get declined for no apparent reason.
This i a bit of a problem for me since I use the "online profile" feature to sync my various DVD Profiler installations (multiple OS:es).

So the question is if there is some way to get my scans approved or if I should simply stop contributing and instead start using some offline way to sync my profiles.

I have to admit it feel kind of sad by invelos to "decline without a reason" as it in I think many cases will keep people from contributing they could atleast have a stock reply "invalid due to rules violation" or something.

Make sure that the EAN/UPC of the scan is identical with the one of the profile.

Could you upload an example scan to imageshack.us or another image dump and link them here so that we could take a look at the scans?

Check if the scans are not from a re-release. These scans will not be accepted.

You can add the covers of re-releases to your local DVD Profiler database, but you can not contribute the scans. Do not forget to lock the covers or they will be overwritten when you update your local DVD Profilter database.

Why do users come  and complain and start new threads for the same thread that was started by someone else a week ago?

To see the status and reasons for decline, visit the My Profiler->Contributions link above.  Although we're not able to provide a detailed reason every time, in this case the reason is listed.

Also be sure you have read the rules relative to cover images, and follow those rules, and pay attention to the above two comments.

All of us would like to see reasons for declines but sometimes it may not be practical, please keep in mind that the screeners , and I don't think there are a lot of them because they cost Invelos money, go through thousands and thousands of titles per month. The last time anything was said specifically in this regard, they were checking 30,000 titles per month on average. It'sjust not possible or realistic to expect a reason for each and every decline.

I can't say that I have seen any of your Contributions so I have no idea what they look like. Do you make a Contribution and simply walk away from it, as many users do and then complain, or do you actually check to see what fellow users who might vote on your Contribution have to say about them, we are required to leave a reason when we vote No, such as watermarked image, image does not conform to Rules for size relative to an existing image, images are not an improvement existing image and so forth. The reasons for data are endless.

@woola
sigh, I wont even bother to reply, I know you are probably correct in your assessment of the population as a whole, but you might wanna be interested in the fact that some people might take your post as an offensive (word?). At some point even stop using the program since a tool such as this is largely based upon the the community efforts and with a bad community it is meaningless.

My post clearly stated the intent in the subject, if you feel it superfluous and/or repetitions or what not feel free to ignore it. I did not "explicitly ask you" I asked the community.
And just maybe... if this is something which is repeated over and over and over maybe the review system is flawed and invelos needs to understand that so they can improve it?

@others
Anyways, I have looked abit and I am starting to think maybe I have somehow managed to only uploaded the profile and not the image (which is what I updated).
Is the "evaluate profile" thing supposed to show images if they are updated?
The "profile contribution" thing does not show any changes?

I just resubmitted and the latest submission looks the same?

Is there somewhere you can see what is included in the submission?

Anyways, here is the cover scans (let me know if something is wrong with them)

For DVD: 7350021961327 (Swedish Locality)

Answering mickem's post from 11:30:

Two errors are becoming obvious and are highly likely to be the reason for decline:
First: the lack of any changes:
If you want to contribute new images make sure to check the checkbox in the popup of the program which asks you what you want to contribute. Mind you that this option only becomes active if there are front- and backcover existing.

Second: The lack of contribution notes:
For each and every change to an existing profile three informations are indispensable:
1. What did you change
2. Why did you change
3. Source for this change
In your case the notes might have looked like this:
"Added missing images
Source: Own DVD"

It is highly recommended to read the contribution rules before contributing. If any further questions should arise concerning the interpretation of the rules or how to create a profile, feel free to come up again.

EDIT: Answering mickem's post from 11:47:
Scans seem to be near perfect.
What I can't say without owning the DVD if they are "correct". It might be rerelease covers, but if, as you stated, there are no images for this profile at the moment, they should get accepted.
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

The strange thing is I did include comments and cover scans and such...

Comments can be viewed here:

New listing entries can be viewed here:

And "view contribution" still looks like this:

But again just to clearify this was from the "new" submission so the previous one could have been incorrect so I shall see if it works this time I shall resubmit the others and add the missing once.

After checking the online database for this specific EAN a third reason for the decline is becoming obvious:
You are contributing for a complete new profile, which isn't in the database yet.
The basic information needed in such a case is the title of the DVD and again the sources you used.
Best would be to upload all your data concerning this profile and state that this is a new profile in the contribution notes.
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

This title doesn't seem to be in the database at all. I can't download it in to the program with the EAN you gave and there are no contribution notes from before you tried to add the cover.

Because of this, you have to tell Invelos where you got all the information: Cast, crew, SRP, studios, regions etc. You're not just adding a new cover, you're adding everything.

Just as an example, here are the contribution notes I submitted for a new contribution some time ago. The contribution was approved.

"New contribution: travel DVD. Almost all data from disc. Cast and Crew Credits from the film's opening and end credits. Running time, video format and audio track verified using PowerDVD. Region and layer info verified using DVDInfoPro. Release date and SRP from www.amazon.de."

Hope you'll be more successful next time around. Happy contributing!

Fixed this for you:
Uploaded basic information for this profile, including your provided scans.
Profile should be available tomorrow for enhancements.

Ahh... I never checked that actually I bought years and years ago so I just assumed it was in the database but without scans...

Thanks everyone for the help.

Goblins is correct as a new profile you cannot just contribute cover Scans. And it very clearly is not in the database. Mickem remember this is a user built-database. Once you supplied some information beyond generalities and complaininfg it quickly became very obvious what the issue really was. In fact, the Program told you that this UPC was not in the database, so at that point your assumption that it should be because it was YEARS old became irrelevant. At that point it was simply that you did not realize you had to go ahead and build the profile and just add Covers. It seems  a .little odd to me that you would think you could submit Covers without a profile...but OK. Why was it not in the database, because evidently out of all of our users you are the only one who owns it, and you had not put it in the database.

So now the first thing for you to do is read the rules and then contribute the data appropriately. good job Goblins.

I should say that the first thing for mickem to do is to complete the profile in the way he wants for his own database. If his local preferences match with the rules, he may contribute, if not, it's up to him to build two profiles, one for contribution per the rules, and one correct.

It's not a problem not to contribute, as Ken wrote himself when he noticed that never things had been better than now about the number and quality of contributors.
