Submitting some changes for Goodfellas (upc-085391912224), and see a small correction for spellcheck, but the jacket per say has no over view, Just description of special features disc 1 disc 2) .,
where did this overview come from?  the single edition? and if so is this allowed?
Personally I prefer an Overview and would be ticked if none was allowed..

As per the rules:

When there is no overview on the case, add a simple, self-written overview of 1-2 paragraphs. Do not include spoilers and always match the overview language to the profile's locality.

I realize that opens a can of worms, but that is the rules.

leo1963 is correct in noting that the rules allow a self-written overview in such cases - which is alarmingly close to "anything goes". Personally, I tend to check whether there's another edition of the same film on DVD where I can take the overview from. If that's the case, I usually copy that one, including any formatting. As of yet, I've never needed to actually write one.

yeah it looks like the over view is almost but not quite, the over view from the 1997 single release.

When we have the luck to avoid spoilers or advertising that most overviews show (not speaking of typos...), I find it very sad not to use the possibility that the rules give to us to write a correct overview (in fact, in my local I generally rewrite most of overviews...).

Well, I just read in your online the overview of Star wars I:

"Begin your 'STAR WARS' DVD collection with 'STAR WARS: Episode 1 THE PHANTOM MENACE'. Packed with over six hours of additional material, including exclusive documentaries and never-before-seen deleted scenes, this 2-disc set provides the perfect showcase for the incredible detail and breathtaking scope of George Lucas's first episode in the mythic 'STAR WARS' saga."

Typically 100% advertisement, , exactly the thing we should avoid.

FYI:

Surfeur that IS the Overview that is on the back cover, like it or NOT. You are free to do whatever you wish locaklly. It belongs only local if it differes from the back cover. You don't understand the difference between the Online and your local, nor do you understand the ramifications of what happens when there are no RULES. You want one thing...to impose YOUR wuill upon the online database and then sit back and watch the chaos.

That's why I always lock totally all my profiles, and never update anything from the online, to prevent my correct local data to be deleted by the crap we find in "per the rules" profiles. Unfortunately, poorly designed rules cannot produce  usable data.

Surfeur:

Again you show that you believe that you are the only ione with the ability to define CORRECT. The ONLY person that you can define correct for is....YOURSELF. That is why you have local control over your data. You have never understood it, and i have come to the sad conclusion that you never will.

The Overview that's on cover is more than adequate & functional for the general user. I agree with T!M about situations when there's no overview on the back. Allowing users to write their own should be a last resort option IMHO. First should obviously come from the box, then from another profile of the same title, then if no alternative is available a user written one. Of course, I'm solely talking about the Online, how a user stores it locally isn't important here.

I much prefer this to a self written overview as well.  Takes all the personal preference out of the equation.
No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.

In the past I have contributed profiles for Chinese releases which had overviews in Chinese characters only. DVDP is unable to handle those. What I did was find the matching US profile, copy the Overview from that profile and state this in my contribution notes (including the UPC of the source profile). This way of handling it (including my explicit contribution notes) has so far always been approved by the screeners.

I often find overviews not even close to matching the one on the back cover. I've often wondered why this is, when I can even see the original in the profile cover images. Guess this thread finally answers this question
