| Posted: | | | | Hey guys,
I am right now adding alot of overviews for titles that have only characters on the back that DVD Profiler does not support (f.e. chinese, korean, japanese).
Now I am in a friendly dispute with a user who voted NO. he says it is not allowed what I do.
I think he is wrong and that it is definitely allowed to add an overview in such cases, this was also discussed before if I am not mistaken.
The title in question features no overview at all on the slip case and an overview in korean letters on the keep case.
Please let me know if I am following the rules with adding an overview.

| Posted: | | | | From the rules: "When there is no overview on the case, add a simple, self-written overview of 1-2 paragraphs."
While I can see the argument that, technically, there is an overview on the case here, it doesn't seem too far-fetched to apply this rule here: sure, there may be an overview, but it's not an overview that can possible be entered in DVD Profiler. A translated or a self-written one seems highly preferable over having nothing at all. | | | Last edited: by T!M |

| Posted: | | | | The NO voter is wrong IMHO, for the reason T!M mentioned. This was discussed recently in this thread, where I also described how I handled similar cases fairly recently. |

But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

| Posted: | | | | The self written overview should be in the localities language though. Therefore if the locality is China, the self written overview should be in romanised Chinese. |

My first choice would be a translated version of the Korean overview but, if you can't translate it, then a self written one would work. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. Donnie Actually, it's not a joke, it's what the rules say: always match the overview language to the profile's localitySo, if your DVD is of Korean locality, and you added an English language overview, the NO voter is technically correct. If English is a 2nd language in Korea, then I guess it would be within the rules. | | | View my collection at http://www.chriskepolis.be/home/dvd.htm

| Posted: | | | | I am a bit puzzled.
So some of you suggest no overview is better than having one ?

| Posted: | | | | I voted 'No' on the contribution, and will continue to do so until A the overview rule is changed or B the contribution notes have a link to thread in the forums where Ken or Gerry has said that the rules dont apply in cases as this. Not only do i vote according by the rules, i believe the rules are right. "For multi-language cases, use only the language of the DVDs locality. When there is no overview on the case, add a simple, self-written overview of 1-2 paragraphs. Do not include spoilers and always match the overview language to the profile's locality." I cant see how anyone of you can justify a Yes vote? Also since we are talking about a non English release in a non english locality, who decides what language we use? Who decided it will be english? Korean can be written with latin alphabet; Revised Romanization of Korean. Thats the official way, english is not. I believe that the program should support unicode, but until it can, Romanization is the official way that can be used in DVDP. English overview belongs to your local database, if you wish to use one. Quoting cvermeylen: Quote: If English is a 2nd language in Korea, then I guess it would be within the rules. This is the case with Hong Kong, and there an english title/overview is allowed by the rules. | | | Last edited: by whispering |

| Posted: | | | | Well, let's agree to disagree here, I think english is the world language, and if there is a non readable and a non enterable language on the cover, what speaks against entering an overview instead of leaving it blank ? I will see how the screeners decide on this, they acccepted many others so far, that I submitted. But this is the first with a NO vote, so if they will reject it, no problem with me, I'll keep this one local then cheers Donnie | | | www.tvmaze.com |

Ken has already said (aparently in another thread) that he can't use Unicode since it would mean massive changes to the database. | | | Paul |

cheers Donnie The rules - obviously. However I totally agree with your approach ("common sense" - ducks for cover ). Since, as pauls42 pointed out, Unicode support will not be forthcoming any time soon, what needs to be done is to get reality and the contribution rules aligned. I'll put a request to that effect in the Contribution Rules Committee. EDIT: Done! | | | Last edited: by dee1959jay |
