| Posted: | | | | I'm currently working on a tv series and have come across the following credits.
In addition to the regular writing credits the end credits has these.
Developed by <Name> <Name>
From a Format by <Name> <Name>
I know Developed by doesn't get a credit, but I'm not sure about the Format by credits.
Any ideas about the Format by credits and which credit they would get it any? |

| Posted: | | | | I don't think we can do Format By at this time. Context might be useful to know tough. Is this a TV Series, I presume they have some form of, for us, "normal" writing creds.

Is it clear what this "format" is? Is the show derived from a film, a play or a book? I have no idea what they mean by format. To make it more clear this is for The Munsters tv series. I suppose the format could be the general idea of the classic Universal films such as Frankenstein, Dracula and others. |

| Posted: | | | | This is used on 'The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air' also.
In the 'Fresh Prince' case it means someone came up with the 'format' and then someone else brought it to television.
I would go with 'Original Material By' until we have a 'Format By' option. | | | Last edited: by GreyHulk |

That "someone else" is subsequently credited as "developed by". I track the latter using custom crew. Quote: So I would go with 'Original Material By' until we have a 'Format By' option. I suppose the format could be the general idea of the classic Universal films such as Frankenstein, Dracula and others. I would say leave it out for now unless the names under Format by are like Mary Shelly or Bram Stoker then I would go with OMB. Or some other writer of the original classic monster movies or books. | | | Are you local? This is a local shop the strangers you would bring would not understand us, our customs, our local ways. |

(Adapted from another medium) I think Original Characters by would match better. Quoting GreyHulk: Quote: It usually means someone came up with the 'format' and then someone else brought it to television. That like I also understand format by. And this would be "screenplays based on characters from another work" Hmm, or could the characters change on a format by? To go sure leave it out. |
