In the credits section of the rules the following rule has been added:

Quote:
Military rank/affiliation or other honorifics should be included in the 'Credited As' field. Example: a credit of "Cpl. John Smith, USMC" should be entered as First Name: "John", Last Name "Smith", Credited As "Cpl. John Smith, USMC"

That means that prefixes like "Father", "Sister", "Reverend", "Mr." & "Dr." and degrees (postfixes?) like "MSc", "MA" & "BSc" should be handled the same way, because these are honorifics as well, unless it's part of a stage name, right?

I juist tracked Marshall (but in some cases that is a name), Deputy, Sir, Lord, Princess, Sheriff...

So many decisions to take.

I'd say so, yes.

Indeed, and in most cases we won't be able to find them.

I mentioned the more of a need for Birth Years when Ken first showed us the change... but apparently most must not of been concerned with it... as my post then was never replied to in any way. I personally think it is a shame.

I see two options:

  • Gibson [Wing Comdr. Gibson]

  • Guy Gibson [Wing Comdr. Gibson]

  • CLT:
    Gibson - 0 titles (0 profiles)
    Guy Gibson - 2 titles (5 profiles)

All credits for Guy Gibson are for The Dam Busters, so the first option is the one to go for.

I don't, but do you really want to credit him with just his last name.

Every Rule has an exception.  As far as I'm concerned, this is one of those exceptions.

In fact, you CANNOT credit him as "//Gibson".  The program REQUIRES a first name to be entered.  Or are you suggesting that we put his last name in the first name field????

I'd love to, but in the past I've repeatedly been told that we can't do that. If the guy is NEVER EVER credited as "Guy Gibson", then how can that be his common name? If we're allowed to document "real" and "correct" names, then the foundation under the entire common name-system is gone. How will you explain to, say, surfeur (no offense intended, surfeur, just making a point), that he can't use "real" and "correct" names when he feels it's necessary, but you can?

Like I said, there is an exception to every rule, and the program does not allow you to enter him properly as "//Gibson".

No matter what is done in this case, it will be wrong (per the rules).

Prior to the most recent change in the rules, we could have entered him as "Wing Comdr.//Gibson", but no more.

Wasn't this Wing Cmdr. Gibson//, sort of a stage name, since Wing Cmdr. obviously isn't a first name, just like Gibson isn't?

But if the first name can be documented, i'd prefer Guy//Gibson with Credited As including the job title.
