I understand that I am asking a silly question, but how does one know that they are a movie hoarder?
I cant seem to part with any of mine, even though I have double dipped or really think the movie is a stinker.

Just wondering.
The theme ingredient is ......

Hoarding would not be the correct overall definition of ones buying of many movies. Certainly yes storing for future use is one reason the majority of pepole buy movies, comes under the definition of hoarding.

But there are many reasons that come under many different definitions. You can't just simplify the buying of movies down to the simple compulsive act of hoarding.

I'd say it's when feel the need to buy computer software to keep track of your movie collection.

I'd say that you are seriously endangered if you fulfill two conditions
1: Your "Unwatched"-pile contains more than 10% of your collection
AND
2: "Unwatched"-pile > 80 titles
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

I am totally a movie hoarder.

Hoarding isn't always about owning worthless things or owning a lot if things. It can be about not getting use out if the things that you have or not getting rid of the things that you no longer have use for, keeping it "just in case you may need it."

The one that I deal with is not getting rid of. I get plenty of use out of the DVDs that I bought or asked for (but I have a few that I was given that I don't care for at all.) I watch and rewatch them as much as possible when not doing other things that I enjoy more, but I can't get rid of the ones that I have because I want to get more value  from them than what gets offered.

(That's not to say I want to get near retail, but I'd "expect" more than 10% return.)
If at first you don't succeed, skydiving isn't for you.

I have a rather little collection of 1200 movies. I generally watch any new movie within 2 or 3 days. Today's unwatched = 0

But my wife already considers that "I am seriously endangered"

If your apartment looks like the picture below...then you're definately a hoarder. My "Collection" is over 2,600 titles and I don't consider myself a hoarder. My "Collection" is neatly shelved and does not interfere with daily living. I've rewatched many of the titles I own and my unwatched list is managable...only 25 titles. My siblings and mother on the other hand consider me a nut .

Does the fact that you have 824 collection numbers factor into your definition?

thing is i've seen probably 95% of the shows/films - and want to own them... life just doesn't give me enough time to watch them as much as i would like

Hey, I thought I was the only one.

1,374 unwatched, but only 568 never seen.  I'm holding off on buying anymore until I get that never seen number under 100.
