| | Posted: | | | | As a general rule of thumb, I don't touch crew but have been adding crew a bit more recently - at least the ones I am comfortable with. I have a question when it comes to adding the music crew.
Composer is easy enough etc. but my question is if there is an easy and accurate way to distinguish which songs are written specifically for the film? |

Another good hint are the copyright notes. Songs that have something in the lines "By Courtesy of ..." almost never are Original Songs. | | | It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!

| | Posted: | | | | Google can usually do it. Run a search for 'artist - song title' and see what hits. If it was only on the soundtrack, you should only see that. If you see it on another album, check the release dates (first by year which is easiest). I also use amazon to check song lists for albums if I can't find better info for. If a song has already been on an album that pre-dates the film by a more than a year, it's 99% for the film. Also, remixes don't count! Rob Zombie wrote nothing for The Matrix, but I think he's in some profiles for song-writing due to a remix being exclusive to the soundtrack. I know he was in at least one profile before I got to it.  If a song appears on an album released after the film, it was probably for the film originally and should be credited. |

I don't understand. If this remix was made specifically for the movie, why wouldn't Zombie get the credit? (Genuine question.) Because the song already has been written and published. All he did for the film was mess around with the sound to make a remix, but the song had already been written and was not written for the film. I guess you could make an argument that he re-wrote the music and that should count, but it's partial writing at best. Plus Zombie is one of those artists who does lots of remixes, and this may have been one that was laying around doing nothing and he contributed it after being asked if he had anything. | | | | Last edited: by bigdaddyhorse |

That's exactly how I look at it (the bolded). I don't consider a remix something just messed around with. Although I can see why people see that (and I don't really care enough to debate it ). Let me ask you this (and this is just the sake of curiosity again). Say an artist had a song released a few years back, but then re-records that song with slightly different lyrics specifically for a movie. Is that the same as a remix? | | | Reviewer, HorrorTalk.com

As I said it's a guess as I don't touch that area of the credits. I stay away from credits all together!
