Just got in two titles today, both with BD/DVD combo packs.

The first, "The Descendants", (024543752103) has the DVD as a child profile. The Blu-ray profile counts as one and the DVD profile counts as one.

For "Winter in Wartime", (043396381582) the DVD is listed in a single profile as "disc 2" in he Blu-Ray profile. Both discs together count as one.

Does "Winter" need to be fixed, or what?

For these combo sets, both discs need to be listed in the main/parent profile. A separate child profile for the DVD disc may be submitted as well - this is optional. How these are "counted" is purely a local option: the program lets you do that any way you want.

IMO a Combo-pack doesn't justify a child-profile by Disc-ID for the DVD. Those should be reserved for "real" boxsets.

In fact it doesn't even really make sense as long as I don't treat the combo-package as parent and both included discs as children.

Even if I'd go that far (not covered by the rules!), what would be the point?
Except for some Tech-Spechs (Audio Format (maybe), Bonus Features (maybe), Disc-ID) the data for both discs would be identical.

The case would be different if there were different versions of the Main-Feature on the discs (e.g. Extended on Blu-Ray, Original on DVD).
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

Handling of the "Features & Formast" and "Audio and Subtitles" are confusing for me with the "Winter in Wartime" as currently listed.

I know that the DVD can't have DTS-HD audio, but that's what's listed.

The DVD is 16x9 enhanced, but that's not indicated because it doesn't apply to Blu-ray.

I don't know if the features are common to both discs or not.

I'd like to list these so that all the features are appropriate to each disc. This is a very common way of releasing discs now, so I think there should be some rule on it.

Unless I'm misunderstanding you, there is a rule on it:

Quote:
Sets containing the same film on multiple media types (such as a Blu-ray/DVD combo pack) are to be entered as a normal profile for the main media type (Blu-ray in this example), with all included media types checked. A combo which includes HD media (HD-DVD, Blu-ray) as well as DVD should use the details from the HD media in the main profile. However, you may add an additional profile by Disc ID for the DVD content and add this profile to the Box Set contents for the Blu-ray profile.

I have quite a number of these Blu-ray + DVD Combos, and it's really never been a problem adding/contributing them. The main profile has the Blu-ray details, and the Disc ID profile has the DVD details.

The DVD copy can be added as a child profile using the Disc ID, with the disc-specific data in the profile. The child profile can then be added to the box set contents of the Blu-ray.

Personally, I don't bother using child profiles for bonus DVD copies, but can understand why others do.

This is how I do mine and I haven't seen one of my contribution rejected. As long as you wrote in your note that the DVD is a child profile of the blu with the UPC I don't see any problem.

Thanks for the rule. So do I submit this as a correction, or what? That is, remove the disc # 2 and add a child profile with that disc?

No, leave disc #2 in the main profile (with "DVD" as the descriptor) and add a child profile by Disc ID.

Like dee1959jay said.... the info still belongs in the parent (BD) profile for those that don't want to use the child profile.

Though personally I always delete the DVD disc ID from my local.

I'm with Pete, I delete all info referencing the DVD from the parent and lock locally. The child contains all info in reference to that disc. I do the same for 3Ds...Delete all info referencing the BRD and DVD from the parent and lock.

Do I need to submit a disc id or is this something all done locally?

Sounds like the profile needs a disc ID profile made for the DVD... just like normally done with box sets.... and then added to the profile to the box set of the blu-ray profile.

Of course since it is optional... it is up to you if you want to bother or not. I know... speaking for myself at least... I really appreciate when the DVD profile is already done.

Correct, this is how it's always done.

The Blu-ray would be added in the main Blu-ray profile under Disc ID as "Main Feature (BD)" and the DVD is entered below it in Disc ID as "Main Feature (DVD)"

Yes, you can submit the "DVD" as a Disc ID level profile. It's a good idea to reference the Blu-ray + DVD Combo UPC where it is coming from in your contribution notes.

And only add the "DVD" disc details to that Disc ID level profile...no specific Blu-ray technical disc details.

The coverscans, overview, genres, release date, and case type should generally be identical for both profiles. Don't add any SRP to the DVD child profile though, leave it blank.

In this case, there is already a regular, separate DVD profile (043396381636) which does not have any DVD disc info associated with it.

What parts of that profile can I clone when making the Disc ID profile? Do I use the existing BD cover images for the DVD disc profile, or the DVD images?

It would have to match the case it is in... so would need to use the Blu-ray cover and overview and such.

I personally wouldn't bother cloning the DVD profile... I would think it would be easier to clone the Blu-ray profile and change what is different about the DVD... format... aspect ratio... audio.. etc.
