| | Posted: | | | | As most of you know... I just did get a blu-ray player. Yes I am very late to the club. And I wouldn't even have it if it wasn't a gift from my daughter (she got a new one so gave me her current one). Since then a bunch of my friends has been helping me out and giving me some movies on BD. Very grateful btw!  As of right now I have... In Owned: 28 BD discs In Ordered: 11 BD discs Looking over the profiles I had a couple basic questions. Out of the 39 profiles only 1 is marked to have Closed Captioning... Is CC something that is virtually never used for BD discs? - Is it most likely the one is wrong.. other profiles not complete... or Everything is right and it is just rare? I can't seem to find a way to check this with my current TV. There is a CC button on the TV remote... but nothing happens when I push it. I am guessing this is because CC not available on the disc? I need to pop in the one that is marked as having CC to check it I guess. - I only have a standard (old tube TV)... the Blu-ray is one that can hook to it fine... but all the BDs looks like they are full framed instead of widescreen. Is there anything (short of a new TV... I know I desperately need a new TV!  ) I can do to get these to look right (in widescreen) on my TV? Thanks for any answers.  | | | | Pete |

| | Posted: | | | | LI just did a quick query and found that out of my 1466 BDs only 102 are indicated by DVDP as having CC. I never use it. So it appears that most don't have CC.
There should be a setting somewhere in the Blu-ray players menu to output it I believe. I had a PS3 before I got my HDTV, and it was set up for a 4:3 SDTV. What's the model number of the blu-ray player? | | | HDTV: 52" Toshiba Regza 52XV545U AVR: Onkyo TR-707

| | Posted: | | | | I don't own or have direct knowledge of that brand, but it should be something like the following.
Via the players remote click on either the Menu or Setup menu, find a menu pertaining to Display or Video output. See what the setting is. It should be set for Standard or 4:3 ratio. |

But many do indicate CC on the back covers, Below is the Canadian Blu-ray of Independence Day and it does have the CC symbol  Hard to make it out at this resolution, but it's at the far right of the audio tab, a third of the way up. | | Posted: | | | | From what I've read Blu-ray can't carry CC info for the decoding hardware. My guess is that it's really just using the standard subtitles process with extra info describing the action/other sounds and they're being lazy in their description of it, as the outcome is the same.

I guess you have the BR player hooked up via RCA jacks ..? and yes all the image(s) will be window boxed ..

It is probably more as I see only 6 of the Bond 50 set 22 BD are so marked. They all should be so marked.
I just check the box they come in.
Since a lot of people don't use CC, it is probably missed on a lot of BDs.
My latest TV has both 4 hdmi and 1 component jacks.
I use component jack (3 to 1 plug) and one of the hdmi for my DVD Video Recorder/Video Cassette Recorder (Toshiba) to copy some lecture courses tapes to DVD.
My older TV has only i hdmi, so I use a 3 hdmi to 1 hdmi switch for it.
But I have never used the component jack with the BD players.
I got an extra BD/DVD player for my PC, LaCie, it is smaller than a keep case, connects to hdmi or USB 3.
