I've got a question concerning overviews.

From The Rules:
"Copy the overview from the back of the DVD case exactly as written, including capitalization of words exactly as shown on the back of the case."

Does that include spelling mistakes? Because UPC 4009750394755 "The Artist" has one on the back: "bringt er großes Gefühle" instead of "bringt er große Gefühle" or "bringt er großes Gefühl". And actually I'm not sure which one it is. Because both make sense.
"The only way to get rid of a temptation is to yield to it. Resist it, and your soul grows sick with longing for the things it has forbidden to itself, with desire for what its monstrous laws have made monstrous and unlawful."

Yes, spelling mistakes should be entered exactly as they appear in the back cover's Overview. The rule makes no exception.

This is what rules want. One of the most stupid thing we can find in those rules, and a good reason not to contribute and never download anything from this mess we call "online database" and is in fact a collection of errors (many fields are polluted by this "exactly as on screen/cover" rule).

As Corey said,
and you delivered the reason yourself:

It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

Yes. It also includes grammatical errors, punctuation errors, syntax errors and semantic errors.

It seems that it is the first one when there is no spelling mistake, which is logic knowing the movie...

Try asking on the German Forum (for German discs anyways), you might get a more sensible and friendly answer.

There is nothing unfriendly or insensible here. And just going to the German forum does not change what the rules say... or how it was clarified by Invelos to mean just as the rules say... EXACTLY as on back case.

But it would not be completely unheard of to write:

Thanks for the tip, but I'm not sure what response in this thread you're referring to...

There is no "German" forum, that's just an obscure website.

Does that include spelling mistakes?

Don't forget to "correct" the back image, too, with GIMP, and your back cover, with Tipp-Ex.

This is one area in which the rules are quite clear, the Overview must exactly match the back cover.

I can't stand spelling mistakes, Overviews written entirely in italics etc. so I "fix" those locally and don't contribute those profiles.

That silly rule (sorry) is one reason that I am not contributing much to the database. Why should I add obvious errors, only because of bad spelling of some people? There are clear rules for the orthography, although people don't know/use it.

Possibly,
but in this case it's not a matter of orthography, but of grammar.
And while the phrase as written is quite obviously incorrect there are at least three options to "correct" it.
Which one do we pick and how do we prevent ping-pong contribution wars?

Anyhow, many users tend to forget that we are working on a database here.
And altering the original data only ever results in one thing: An incorrect database.
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?
