I have had this question for quite a while... but it kept slipping my mind to ask it.

On this title...

Cirque Du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant

Regions ABC

Released: 2/23/2010

Widescreen 2.35

Shouldn't the PER RULES title of this release be The Vampire's Assistant: Cirque Du Freak?

I am confused on this one as when I searched the online database all I could read (in English) had it as Cirque Du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant. I searched the forum here (with google) and didn't find any previous discussion on the title either.

Looks right to me. Other series of movies are done this same way. I consider "The Vampire's Assistant" ' to be a subtitle, not an edition.

Who said anything about the edition?... look closer at the cover... I am saying why isn't the title PER RULES (as we take the title as is from the front cover) The Vampire's Assistant: Cirque Du Freak (with no edition).

I'd title it The Vampire's Assistant: Cirque Du Freak, but I have no vested interest in this. I imagine it's based on a book or something but I don't really know. I can see the logic of doing it the other way if this were a film series.

so everyone had it with the correct title.

I for one always felt that everything in the online database should be exactly per the rules Invelos gives us... any differences should be local only.

All the contribution rule states is to use the title from the front cover.

Doesn't say there is a specific order. Doesn't say from top to bottom or left to right. Just use title. Guess it is up to common sense.

And common sense tells me not to flip-flop the title of the DVD Release... no more then common sense tells me the title of the movie is There's Something About Mary... not There's Something More About Mary. But yet we use the correct DVD Release title.

The title block says Cirque du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant

Which tells me that per the rules it should be...

Title: The Vampire's Assistant: Cirque du Freak
Original Title: Cirque du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant

The fact that there are numerous films in this series, with the common verbiage "Cirque du Freak" tells me the series of films is called "Cirque du Freak" and each individual film has a subtitle, so, I would enter it as "Cirque du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant", exactly as it appears in the credit block.

They will also all sort together this way without having to change the sort title.

What series of films?  I've done a google search and can't find any other films.

While I understand where you are coming from, there is no 'per the rules' answer here.  While the rules do tell us to "Use the title from the front cover," that's all the guidance we get.  It is up to each person to decide what the actual title is.

Your common sense tells you it is 'The Vampire's Assistant: Cirque du Freak' because that is the order on the cover.
Other people's common sense tells them it is 'Cirque du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant' because it is based on a book in the series 'Cirque du Freak'.

Neither can honestly claim that their version is 'per the rules' because, as I just said, the rules are silent on this issue.

Yup, you're right, it is a series of books. This is the only one that has been made into a movie; so far.

As you are quick to point out in many other instances, the credit block can provide some guidance in this case.
