Do you know what it is in English?

All titles are taken from the CLT results. If the original title is not correct, please feel free to change that in the database.

Wait, wait, you provide a lot of editions and additions.

I did not confirm Lee Byung-hun in A Bittersweet Life.

I just sent the actual film credits, of Ang-ma-reul bo-at-da [then "Confirmed by Gamemaster" ?] and Dalkomhan insaeng [then "Confirmed by bbbbb ?"].

Everything that goes beyond the actual film credits is your interpretation.

I've rechecked I Saw The Devil (aka Akmareul boatda) myself and I have a confirmation (actually multiple) that the Korean characters are a translation for Lee Byung-hun. As you can see on both of the screenshots you've provided the characters are the same.

If you don't want to be responsible for the credits that's ok. I'm sure it's correct so the confirmation is legitimate to me.

In all Korean made movies he will be credited as Lee (surname/ last name) Byung-hun (first name)  as that is the naming convention there.

Another country with the same naming convention is Japan.
In all Japanese made films by Akira Kurosawa he is always credited as Kurosawa Akira, never as Akira Kurosawa.

Japanese print of "Yojimbo" with credit, read top to bottom: first 2 Kanji Characters at left  spell Kurosawa, bottom Kanji character at left spells Akira.

Old American print of "Yomjimbo"

When film is released overseas one of 3 things can happen:
1. New English (or whatever language) credits are spliced in, as is the case here.
Here his name has been translated and re-orded into English as Akira Kurosawa. This method is somewhat out of favor.

2. The original Japanese print is shown with English (or whatever language) subtitles for the dialogue and film credits, in which case the subtitles will show "Akira Kurosawa"

3. The original Japanese print with only subtitles for the dialogue...credits not subtitled, in which case his name in Kanji is still Kurosawa Akira.

Even so, the other name variants are also translations of the exact same sequence of Korean characters. Trying to construct a common name for actors that are mostly credited in non-latin characters is a meaningless exercise.

Maybe we should simply exclude all non-latin credits from the common name building process? - This would lead to a common name for latin credits, exactly what we are searching for...

Per rules.
Do not translate foreign language role names to the language of the locality unless a translation is provided in the film credits

I would respect the rule but Invelos doesn't support Korean. Does that mean that all castlists that consist characters that are not supported by Invelos should be removed from the database?

Personally, I think not. I think there's a difference in translation. This is a translation into another writing system. In my opinion it's different then when I contribute William the Bull into the database in stead of Guillermo del Toro.

I find it hard to judge if we should exclude the writing systems which are not supported to determine the common name, but it's definitely something to consider in order to avoid the above discussion.
