| | Posted: | | | | The German DVD edition of Community: Season 2 has completely different episodes titles in the disc's menu and on the inside of the DVD cover (e.g. cover: Episode 1: Frauenpower; menu: Episode 1:Anthropologie für Anfänger)
The episode itself has no title in it.
Where should I take the episode titles from?
Menu or inside of the cover?
In my opinion the data on the disc itself takes precedence over the cover. | | | Think different

Take the episode title from the episode itself, or from elsewhere on the DVD or DVD packaging, exactly as shown. If all episode titles are entirely capitalized, use standard capitalization rules instead. If the episodes are listed with quotes around each title, exclude the quotes.
If the DVD or DVD packaging specifically numbers the episodes, use that number in the divider. Otherwise, episodes are to be numbered sequentially in the order that they appear on the DVD(s) in the set, with the number sequence carrying over from disc to disc. Do not number non-episodic features such as movies or alternate cuts unless they are given specific numbers on the DVD or DVD packaging. There is nothing here to tell you where to take from when. Only that if the episode title is on the episode itself than that is where we take it from. On a case like this when there is no title on the episode itself the rules give no preference on where to take it from. Just as long as it is coming from the set itself it is within the rules. I understand. Just thought the various responses in that thread would help shed at least *some* light, as it's essentially the same problem, just a variant of it. Personally, I go by what's on the screen within the episode itself, if there isn't, I go for what the DVD menu calls it, and if there's nothing there either, I go with what can be found on the packaging. In that order: episode, DVD menu, DVD packaging. |

you don't have to be that smart to figure out what one is correct - but there is no law saying that you can't be stupid. And some just do it so well.

Elsewhere on the DVD comes before packaging. And of course nowhere have we seen that titles (be it film or episodes) have not been transscribed properly. That doesn't help at all. And this should not just about this box, but need to relate to other cases. And in another case it might be the other way around. So just because one is the translation of the original title doesn't make it the right choice. I don't like the names of the episodes on the cover myself. But I think it's the right place to look. In this case one option is just as good as the other as far as the rules are concerned. You chose to go with the order they are listed in the rules. The rules does not demand it. | | | | Pete |

| | Posted: | | | | Although I don't agree with DorianGay that taking episode titles from the packaging is the right thing to do, this episode titles aren't made up or something like that. Most likely they come from the German tv channel which aired this episodes or the dubbing company which translated the episodes into German. It's a very common thing here in Germany to give episodes of English/American tv shows completely different German titles.
I assume that Sony Pictures, when they made the German DVDs, had no idea of the titles, the German tv channel has come up with. So they used direct translations of the original titles.
The question is not whether one of the titles is right or wrong, but which title has precedence. | | | Think different

Why not this way. We have also a lot of seasons of series where we did put 1. German Title (English Title)
I find this useful informations if you have the German Episode Title and in brackets the English Original Episode Title. As far as I know this is not forbidden and as told worthful informations, at least for me. | | | *
