| Posted: | | | | Checkboxes for Voice and Uncredited Headshots Birthyear not quite sure how it all works yet but I like what I see. Also I noticed the rules now say : Quote:
Use the "As Credited" field where the actor's name differs from the credited name.
It is generally not necessary to add birth year for actors as you add them to DVD Profiler. Use the birth year to differentiate between two actors with the same name.
Cast and crew images are not contributed with the profile.
Group names of crew members together within each role available and list in exactly the same order credited. The table below gives each of the crew roles available within DVD Profiler. For each category, include only those people credited with the roles listed in the "Film Credits to Include" column. If someone is not credited with one of these roles, do not include them in the Crew section. Nicely done |

| Posted: | | | | Seriously...the cast list is probably perfect now. So awesome. | | | "I am Andrew Ryan and I am here to ask you a question: Is a man not entitled to the sweat of his own brow?
No, says the man in Washington. It belongs to the poor. No, says the man in the Vatican. It belongs to God. No, says the man in Moscow. It belongs to everyone.
I rejected those answers. Instead, I chose something different. I chose the impossible. I chose… Rapture." |

| Posted: | | | | Glad you like it! The birth year should operate pretty transparently, but for the detail-inclined: As a new profile is imported the program tries to make an exact match by full name and birth year. Failing that, it matches by name only, trying to find a record with no birth year. If it finds a match and the existing record doesn't have a birth year, but the new one does, it will stamp the birth year into the local database. If none of the above, it will create a new actor entry. | | | Invelos Software, Inc. Representative |

| Posted: | | | | I am digging the headshots (had used them with skins before but now they witht he default layout, how cool is that?)
Quick question, where are the headshots and various other things for that matter stored now? | | | DVD Profiler user since October 1, 2004 |

| Posted: | | | | Looks great Ken, but what happens with names like Courteney Cox Arquette vs. Courteney Cox?? Depending what a person has in their local database and the other name shows up? Will we always have to be on the look out for these, or are you going to have a forum where people can decide on what the common name should be? | | | The Other DVD Forum Why do people who know the least know it the loudest? |

Will we always have to be on the look out for these, or are you going to have a forum where people can decide on what the common name should be? I've contributed a profile with "Credited As" names, and the way it shows up is that, in the contribution itself (where you vote), you see the name that they're credited as. I would say the common name should be the person's name at that time. If CCA were to get divorced, you'd want to simply edit her entry into the database to Courteney Cox. From what I can see, every actor should only have ONE name in the cast database. | | | "I am Andrew Ryan and I am here to ask you a question: Is a man not entitled to the sweat of his own brow?

| Posted: | | | | I believe it's true also that every actor should have only ONE name in the cast database, the problem I can see though is which name? If CCA was the only name in the database, then the linking I would assume would work, but if tomorrow she changes her name to CC, then all new profiles with this new name would not link with the older profiles of the older name. | | | The Other DVD Forum Why do people who know the least know it the loudest? |

We do AS CREDITED period. There is now an option to link names, though I haven't explored it yet. This is NOT IMDb and never will be, there is ONE correct dataset for every film and that is not something YOU invent, it is the CREDITS for that film.

Skip Skip, give it a rest. There's an OPTION for AS CREDITED. We give each actor one name in the database, and use the As Credited option for...well, you know....AS CREDITED. It's really not difficult. I've already played with it and submitted a profile with it. It's flawless. The DVD profile will show the name that the actor was credited as in the film. When you double-click the name, the master name (in this case, Courteney Cox-Arquette) shows up at the top. Below in their films, it will state their role, and say "Credited as Courteney Cox". Simple. There's no reason to even discuss this, or come out with your usual elitist attitude. The program has been designed so that there is no more arguing over this point. Each actor has one name in the database. If the name in the film is different from that first name, you use the As Credited section to include that name. Simple. So easy, even a caveman can do it. | | | "I am Andrew Ryan and I am here to ask you a question: Is a man not entitled to the sweat of his own brow?

| Posted: | | | | When I get an opportunity yo explore this chilbul, which probably won't take long, then I'll deal with it. In the meantime the Rules still say exactly what they said before, list the Cast and crew and Crew exactly as see them on the screen PERIOD.
Drop your insulting attitude.

The feature is there. I intend to contribute profiles using that feature. Period. If Ken didn't want profiles contributed using the Credited As feature, it wouldn't be in the system. If I hear otherwise from Ken, I won't do this....but I'm sure I won't. I'm certainly not going to wait for the mighty Skip's approval to do it. But I guess you'd rather contribute a bunch of profiles your way and then go back and fix them, instead of testing out the new features before contributing. Suit yourself.
The rules also say NOTHING about child profiles for TV sets, yet you've been contributing quite a bit of those today.
You can't have it both ways. | | | "I am Andrew Ryan and I am here to ask you a question: Is a man not entitled to the sweat of his own brow?

| Posted: | | | | One other thing. Using this feature DOES list the Cast and Crew EXACTLY as they appear on the screen. Only when you double-click the person's name do you see the "Master Name". | | | "I am Andrew Ryan and I am here to ask you a question: Is a man not entitled to the sweat of his own brow?

Skip Then you'll deal with what exactly?? Do you have some imaginary authority here too??? Skipnut, if you would just read first then you wouldn't have to start crying right away, I wasn't talking about As-credited, (There is now a field for that you know). My understanding is that for the linking system to work properly, only one "common name" can exist in the database. But how does the system determine which common name to use? Courteney Cox Arquette or Courteney Cox. If both these names appear in your local database, the linking is now broken and you will have to fix it yourself, fine, but when another profile comes in using one or the other name. Will the linking still hold? Only if you happen to have that exact name in your local database is my guess. But I'll wait for Ken to answer this, because, and please listen to this, YOUR OPINION doesn't mean ANYTHING TO ME. | | | The Other DVD Forum Why do people who know the least know it the loudest? |
