I did not meant I was interested in knowing why, I meant that if you would take the time to talk some reason into the perpetrator you will be less likely to become a victim of a violent act.

Alright, Just read all 9 pages of this and I've got to say YEAH SUPREME COURT!

Although I also have gotten tired of Liberals automatically being considered anti gun. I consider myself to be a liberal in many ways (pro-choice, I don't give an F if gays marry, Against the pointlessness of the current war, Pro-Marijuana law reform, Ect,) but that doesn't mean I'm automatically against guns. We were given this right for a reason, so that we have the ability to forcibly remove the current government if need be. It's a DAMN good reason, and I can't help but feel that people who are against ownership are severely lacking in historical perspective. Armed revolution is the last resort, but sometimes a necessary one.

To all those who are like "I live in Insert Country and I don't need a gun to feel safe" Well I Live in America and I don't need a gun to feel safe either, which is why I don't currently own one. But I also feel safer knowing that i can walk into a Store and pick up a rifle or shotgun pretty much immediately, and a handgun within 10 days.

As other responses have said, banning weapons won't do jack except let the Criminals, who will always be armed, prey upon the population. And by this point a ban of firearms in America would be a joke, even I would try to get ahold of one, to stash before the ban took effect. And I can tell by some of the responses here I wouldn't be the only one.

Almost, I live in Europe where the chance of being held at gun point is almost zero and most people use their own brains instead of manipulated ones.

Why is it every burgler is also a rapist, pedophile and a murderer?

Don't know...perhaps the next time your home is invaded you should pause and ask them that .

Strangely, its never happened.  Nor has it happened to anyone I'm related to.  Now that I think about it, nobody I'm aquainted with either.  Haven't checked the statistics but I might have a better chance of winning the lottery.  Of course I guess I could sit around the rest of my life and make plans on how I'll spend the money.  You know, just in case.

Really? Well...consider yourself lucky because it's happened to me twice. Once 30 years ago and again 11 years ago. Perhaps you need to get out of your bubble and try living in the real world .

I know this will really blow your mind, but there are millions of people right here in the USA who don't give any real thought to bad guys breaking in and wiping out the whole family.  Frankly, if I thought that way then a handgun wouldn't be enough.  I mean, who's to say that a whole pack of bad guy rapist murders won't break in?  In that case I'd need more firepower.

I repeat what I said before regarding everday feeling of safety, even more now having heard from Eagle and Max that they have twice had to use firearms for defence, and others talking of their home 'arsenal'. For me that is truly shocking, and something is very wrong with a society that can consider this as a 'norm' and who's solution is to arm themselves 'in case' it happens to them. I don't blame you guys, if I felt my family or wellbeing were threatened like that I'd probably do the same. I'm just glad living in UK it isn't necessary.
Having travelled to the States many times on business and holiday (Vegas again in August) I can honestly say I have only ever felt threatened once in the New York subway, but naievely never even considered the antagonist may be carrying a gun    Other than this one occasion I have only ever found warm welcoming people in America and completely non-violent and non-xenophobic.

Your sarcasm is unappreciated. Your callousness towards victims of crime and how they may choose to cope with it also reflects the type of person you are. If one chooses to arm themselves as a result of being victimized then so be it.

I thank God I live in a country where I have a right to protect my family, myself and my property. If I choose to due it with kind words as Martin suggests or by force then that is my choice.

Truth is I bought my wife a .38 Smith & Wesson because I was traveling on business every week, five days a week for 10 years.  My wife is a whopping 4'11" tall and 96 pounds soaking wet.  I wonder just how much damage she would inflict with her "bare hands" on a 250 pound assailant with a knife, Martin.

You've heard the old adage "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure".  Well that certainly applies here.

I took my wife to the shooting range and had her professionally trained in the use of her pistol.  She is quite confident in it's use and I have no doubt that she would in fact use it if she needed to.  This particular model has no exposed hammer and does not need to be "cocked" before firing.  All she has to do is aim and shoot.  And a .38 caliber bullet will stop all but the drug induced.  Then it might take two.  We have no children in the house to worry about.

For me, this provided a certain level of personal peace of mind while I was away.  It never completely removed the nagging concern at the back of my mind that I could come home and find a disaster, but it helped a lot.

As it turns out she has never had to even take the gun out of the night stand, and that's a very good thing.

What really bothers me is this "concept" that many seem to have that owning a gun means that you yourself are a violent person with no concern for human life.  Nothing could be further from the truth.

I congratulate all of you who believe that they live in society's where violence against them or their families will "never" happen.  I pray to God that this is in fact the case.

Personally, that is a gamble that I choose not to take for the people that I love.
Hal

Hi Guys,

Hal - Good dead bolts & alarm system would further insure the 38 remains in the night stand, a layered defense strategy.

The solution to the problem is obvious, we should not ban guns, but ban criminals. Remember the financial population bell curve, we have a small per cent, that just can't cope in your society. Which makes them more prone, to achieve what others have by using force. Most gun crimes, have a financial element to them. Some intuition can be obtained by plotting/graphing over time unemployment & gun crimes. I'll bet gun crimes rise with rising unemployment. Desperate times & people, make the probability of gun use, more likely. The way to make the small percent (groupt to the left) smaller is EDUCATION. 8-Ball could you please explain to me, why the CA lottery did not solve CA's educational crisis? Perhaps the USA vs others does not spend enough, to insure a small percent? Perhaps without great education, in the USA it's easier to reach desperation sooner than in other countries. I'm not looking for the exceptions to my thinking here. Example! Many of you can come up with examples of the person with a 3rd grade education, becoming fabulously wealthy, that's the exception.

Take Care

The CA Lottery is a sham. It's just a way for the rich to get richer and the poor to get poorer. Only a small fraction of the billions from the lottery actually reach the education system. IMO it should be terminated.

I've been silent for ten pages.

I disagree with most of the comments here. To be sarcastic, and attempt to return to the initial subject of this thread: once again "truth" is a five to four Supreme Court decision. Obviously the four desenting justices are foolish, ignorant morons. The first fourteen words of the second amendment are nothing more than a single example, no longer in force, but to be ignored for the larger more important ideal of giving us all weapons to fend off the hordes of unemployed minorities who are awaiting outside our home to invade, rob, torture and murder us in our sleep. And, of course, a Republican-dominated court would never legislate from the bench, only Democrat ones would.

My point:
There are other points of view, and those of us who have them are not all unpatriotic Communists.

Enjoy your moment of glory, I expect this SOTUS decision will eventually go the way of "... with all deliberate speed."

Thank you for your support, buy bonds.

If it wasn't for bad taste, I wouldn't have no taste at all.
