I wanted to bring this back... as I have changed my opinion on this after going through one of the seasons of Charmed...

I believe I just changed my mind when it comes to TV Series Cast lists...

I was all for...

Main Cast
Main Cast
Main Cast
1. Episode Name
Everyone Else
Everyone Else
Everyone Else

Now after working this with one of the seasons of Charmed... I now think everyone... even main cast should be under each episode Divider!

I can't believe how complicated that the original idea had become just from the one set I did! In Charmed... You have the regular stars in the opening credits...  and the opening credits change through out the whole season! they add and delete regular cast on whether or not they are in the episode... this happened with 2 recurring cast members... Julian McMahon (Cole) and Dorian Gregory (Morris). So throughout the whole season you had 4 different opening credits that could come up you had...

- Stars only
- Stars and Julian
- Stars and Dorian
- Stars and Julian & Dorian

so that is 4 different opening credits that came up throughout the season... all mixed up depending who was in which episodes... I think in the long run it would be much easier to just have everyone credited under each divider.

Having done a couple more of these, even if they're not full season sets, I'm finding I'm in the same boat as Pete.  There are too many exceptions to how things can happen for top-listed credits to work 100% reliably.  It really did seem like a good idea, but reality conspires against us.

I to having been editing some of my TV series now prefer cast behind each episode divider, due to one or two instances wherein the main cast is listed at the very begining of each episode but a couple where actually missing from some those episodes due to appearing else where for other projects during the filming of said episode.
So have changed my vote accordingly.

I've submitted a few profiles now with all cast within each divider, I've not had anyone complain yet.

They look really good to me.

They are also set up for episode profiles IF we ever get to that level.

I hope more will to re-evaluate their vote

I have changed my opinion and vote as well, for the reasons Pete and Rick mention.

I have also changed my vote.
"I am Andrew Ryan and I am here to ask you a question:
Is a man not entitled to the sweat of his own brow?

No, says the man in Washington. It belongs to the poor.
No, says the man in the Vatican. It belongs to God.
No, says the man in Moscow. It belongs to everyone.

I rejected those answers. Instead, I chose something
different. I chose the impossible. I chose…
Rapture."

Wow, Pete's comments really created a flood of vote changes... Looking forward to see what the status is in a few hours, when I come back here after a good night's rest.

Thanks, Pete

For those proponents of episode level profiling (sometime in the future), I find it hard to believe that you would actually support option #1.

If we do Option #2 now, all you do is copy/paste into individual episodes later.

I won't even bother mentioning "as credited"....that's apparently dead for TV Sets!

That is the point I was trying to make. The order of people credited will not be correct using method #1 because even if people appear in every episode, they may not be credited in the same order.

Come on, Kevin, that's like shuffling the deck chairs on the Titanic!  The physical limitations of Option 1 mean you can only enter the regular cast in one order.  If the order changes in episode 3, and you change the list accordingly, then its in that order until it gets changed again.

All that matters is that all the regulars get listed at the top.  The specific order is a moot point.

Hal:

As I have previously described, Option 1 is a bit more streamlined in appearance, Option #2 is best for accuracy. However even Option 1 is not an unthought out departure from As Credited. The Opening credits are defined as those credits that repeat in every episode.

For example the Opening Credits
for Leave it to Beaver Season 1 are the SAME before EVERY episode
Barbara Billingsley
Hugh Beaumont
Tony Dow
Jerry Mathers as The Beaver

All Option 1 says, in essence, above the divider, these people are credited in EVERY Episode of this Season or on this Disc, everyone else for the specific Episodes falls below the divider. It s a variation of As credited but not a departure oir destruction of it. Option 2 presents better accuracy, perfect to the show credits but not necessarily perfect. Ultimate accuracy would be to sit and watch each and every Episode to make note that in this Episode Barbara Billingsley though credited did not appear, she went to see Aunt May  (AKA had the week off) I doubt seriously that very many users would be intersted in going to that extreme, though perhaps some might. Speaking for myself the opening credits are close enough...for Government work.

Skip

Really, Skip, I am intelligent enough to understand what Option #1 and Option #2 mean.

In spite of everything you have said option two does not meet the letter of the Rule as I quoted it above.  That's all.  It is not "in exactly the same order credited".

Spin it any way you like!

Just had to find a way to screw the pooch, didn't ya?  Why can't you just grow up and work with everybody else for a change, huh?

So being a big Samantha Carter fan it would be OK if I just put all the Amanda Tapping credits at the top of all the SG-1 profiles then.

C'mon John. You know better than that. A Credit order needs to be listed or it is completely up to the user to decide who should be on top. (And for me that would be Amanda Tapping )

Yeah, and created a hell of a lot of extra work by forcing us to duplicate several entries for every damn episode!  If you have six regulars and 20 episodes that means 120 EXTRA entries for that season. REAL IMPROVEMENT GUYS!

NOT!

The physical limitations of option 1 are the reason I was initially opposed to it and then subsequently became reopossed to it.

Actually John, the rules are quite specific on what as credited means: "...with names and roles listed exactly as they are in the credits and in exactly the same order credited"

I don't give a crap who is at the top of the regular list, as long as ALL the regulars are there.  The regulars are credited each week even if they don't appear in that episode.

And rules can be rewritten.  That's why we call it a frakkin' compromise.  NEITHER way is ideal.  Option 1 LOOKS better, and involves less damn work.  Rewrite the bloody rule or add an exception to it.

We've already compromised and Ken gave his blessing on box set child profiles, but the rules still read the same.  What's the problem with doing that here?  Other than Hal just has to have it HIS way even after the majority polled for Op. 1.

John, relax a bit. Reading your  multiple posts on just this page can possibly be insulting to some user.

Use friendlier language, and people will listen. The choice of wordas in your post most often makes me ignore them right away...
