Based on what I see on THAT cover I agree Image would be the Distributor for THAT title.

Then we need a clear rule for this new field so that things like Image don't creep in where it should be The Criterion Collection.

I would prefer a "DVD label" field over a "DVD distributor" field.  The DVD label is usually a logo which is not only present on the back cover but also on the spine e.g "The Criterion Collection", "Disney DVD", "Universal" (the globe logo), "Warner Bros." etc.

I was under the impression that this is what the new field(s) were meant for. Otherwise it's not very useful.

Completely agree. Hopefully all this discussion is a moot point and Ken intends this new field to store the DVD label, not distributor. Has there been any discussion in the rules forum about this?

Edit: and on the subject of sub-labels I'd like to see them recorded, not the parent label.

Remember there was talk about more than one field. So it may be possible to put e.g. Dimension and Weinstein Company under the same.

Maybe we should have a rule to use the label listed at the spine (if there is one on the spine. If not, use it the one mentioned on the back)?

Thanks, I must have missed the comment about multiple fields, I thought we were only getting one.
I have to admit I've never looked closely enough at the DVD covers to see if there's any consistency about how labels are mentioned.
It would also be handy to adapt the "edition" rule so we can move stuff like "Criterion Collection" or "Tartan Extreme" into the new field - or do you think people would still prefer to keep that as an edition?

I'm not if multiple fields applied to this option. I just remember reading a mentioning of this earlier in this or another thread. But it would be nice.

Personally, I'd like to see "Criterion COllection", "Dimension Extreme" or similar in this new field, assuming there's multiple fields included.

I almost dread the beta.  Not because I don't want it, but rather the torrential flood of submissions that will have to be voted on.  And I still don't get this distributor thing.

The average movie is roughly 2 hours.  DVD Profiler helps to occupy your time for the other 22 hours.  Seems like an easy choice to me.
Get the CSVExport and Database Query plug-ins here.
Create fake parent profiles to organize your collection.
