I can't speak to the contributions but HSDB v6 has a purified and validated Birth Years.

If you're concerned about invalid BY's, import any updates to a separate database and validate them yourselves before backing it up and importing it into your main collection.

The method I used for v4, v5, and v6 was to take an obscure UPC with no cast or crew (I use the Cat Watchers DVD) and add every cast & crew member with a BY to it, then contribute it to Invelos. Invelos will list all the BY's it doesn't recognize. Copy-n-paste it into Notepad and then cancel the contribution.

Review each BY against the BY thread and remove any that are not listed.
