So... shall we tag now, or shall we tag later?

Now, later, doesn't matter.... as long as you practice safe tagging

I use tags for such things as...
- My Daughter's Collection
- Sub Genres of Horror
--- Aliens
--- Animals
--- Anthologies
--- ComedyHorror
--- Demons
--- Ghosts/Hauntings
--- Mummy
--- Other
--- Psychological Horror
--- Slasher
--- Vampires
--- Werewolves
--- Witches
--- Zombies
- Movie Series
- Natural Disaster
- Stand-UP Comedy
- Superheroes
- TV Series

as well as several other things that don't really make sense to me any longer.

But here is the question...
I want to do a massive clean-up job on my tags... deleting several tags. Is there an easy way to remove all the profiles associated with a tag? Only way I found to do it so far is to go through every profile and delete any tags I don't want to use any longer. With 2534 profiles in my owned tab alone... that sounds like more trouble then it is worth.

Not sure exactly what you want to do but if it's just to clear a Tag so you can delete it do:

Collection -> Flags -> Flag all ->

Collection -> Flagged -> Edit tags -> Clear the tag you want to delete (clearing it for all profiles) then you can Edit Tags and delete the tag without it complaining
It is dangerous to be right in matters where established men are wrong

You know that you can have these tags as pull down selection criteria with phpdvdprofiler?

Have a look at mine to see this sort if thing  in action..

Yeah... thanks Paul... I knew you could... but I didn't want to do that until after I got all my tags exactly as I wanted them. As I said... I have the above... plus a lot more that I don't know why I started to do. I plan on setting mine up like that once I get Tags exactly as I want them!

I am taking some notes for ideas in this thread though!

I keep reading these do you tag, do you that, do you this threads, and reading those, I keep getting the impression that some people here must spend a inordinate amount of time in DVD Profiler

Personally, I don't really use tags. I have only 3 that are really of any use:
- No-cover
- Audit
-- Cover
-- GenInfo
- OOP

That's it. No-cover for when the DVD doesn't have a cover (makes it easier when I feel like doing some scanning to find those that desperately need it), and then Cover and GenInfo for when I actually scan a cover and I've summarily verified the main data. I also have a few profile that are tagged OOP which I created when the OOP thread came up, but I know I won't keep it updated at all. That's it.

I only use one tag: Box Set Cover Only, so I can get a sort that just lists boxset contents and not the cases.

There are a few dvd's on the market where:
1. You can't change audio in 'mid stream' , You have to physically stop the movie and go to menu and find audio within that menu and then change the audio to what you want to hear at that point of the film ( commentary usually)
2. once the DVD gets inserted in the player and comes up you CANNOT get rid of the commercials until it plays thru, ( you are basically hijacked by the DVD)).

That is what I say 'forced menu encoding' .

In the 60's, People took Acid to make the world Weird. Now the World is weird and People take Prozac to make it Normal.

My tags:

I don't use Wish List any longer and the Noprint I use when printing a directory. The Oakley case is for when I take DVDs with me on the road in a CD case for watching on my laptop. The rest are self explanatory. I need to clean them up, added a couple in the auditing section while running both versions for keeping track and I don't need some of them any more.

I use tags for:

- subgenres (e.g. Bollywood, Animal Horror etc.)
- Magazine DVD's (subdivided in to name of magazine)
- Locations of DVD

I considered using more tags, but it's a lot of work to go through the complete colection for this
