| | Posted: | | | | Call me a gluton, but I enjoy the theater experience, I even try to attend special Midnight screenings for the big blockbusters just so I can witness the crowd reaction to the film.
Yes I find many of the same things annoying, but I grew up living in crappy theaters all throughout my teenage years and it is how I want to see most movies for the first time. However I always attempt to see it again as a matinee so I can enjoy the quieter crowd. I find myself enjoying the previews, though I hate the commercials they like to show now, but I won't go to a film at the theater if I miss the previews. The funny part, is that I have usually seen all the previews at the Apple Trailers website, but I still have to see previews prior to the main attraction.
The only bad part for me is that back in July I committed to a healthier lifestyle with daily workouts and healthy eating. I have never been a big soda person and I usually don't eat a lot of sweets, but at the movies I have to have a coke and some candy, it is just part of the experience!!! | | | | My Collection!!! |

my best story (worst movie going experience ) so far ....
Went to the first night of a Vietnamese film about the refugees who escaped in '75. A large part of the local VN community attended, which was cool. What wasn't cool were all the elderly VN ladies (and some gents) who apparently had never been to a movie theater in their life, and proceeded to speak very loudly in Vietnamese to everyone around them, and call and/or take calls on their cell phones to speak very loudly in Vietnamese to everyone else they knew at home about the movie while the movie was showing 
second best (worst) story:
me and a date arrive to see a popular movie after the previews have started, but way before the main feature. There's plenty of room for both of us to sit together in a good row if a woman and her daughter will move over one seat from their perch in the exact center of the row ........... but NO, nothing doing, nada, nine, nyet, forgetaboutit !
when politely asked why, the extremely non-cheerful response ........

| | Posted: | | | | I rarely go to movies any more., When I was a kid,, twice a week, then married- once a week, with child- twice a month., VCR's came a long -once a month., satellite and pay per view- two three times a year., Now with BIG screen TV and sound as well as digital video .,- Maybe just maybe once a year., Thank goodness for birthdays)..,  BUT I do (or did) enjoy good 'audience enthusiasm' at certain points of the film, (i.e. comedy action horror.. ) Which leads this post in the direction of something new I have been finding on certain DVD's and that is the Audio track listed as Other and this 'other' track is Audience participation., It's kinda neat how the overall 5.1 sound is 'echo ee' and the from the title screens to end credits you are there in the audience. Best DVD I have of this is Frank Miller's Sin City. I checked my 'other dvd's and there are listed as separate music only tracks., Are there many audience participation tracks currently on the market or in your library that you know of????? | | | In the 60's, People took Acid to make the world Weird. | | Posted: | | | | In germany it is usual to watch half an hour of advertisement with a few trailers in it. When you see the advertisement for ice cream then you know that in a moment the theatre ice sellers are going to shout "Will jemand noch'n Eis?" and that will take another 5 to 10 minutes depending on how many people were too lazy to buy it while the ads were shown. After that you see another 10 to 15 minutes of trailers and then the movie is presented by <insert beer label here>.
And for these 45+ minutes of advertisement plus appended movie you pay usually 8€ or more. | | | Karsten

| | Posted: | | | | I only go on Tuesday when my local AMC theatre. (Disclosure: I worked as a Head Usher, and Chief of Service for them back in the 70's.) only charge $4.00 all day for any film they are showing. My biggest problem these days are folks who feel a need to text message during the film, and the thoughtless theatre employees who check in on the movie. Why? Because more times then not they have their inner theatre communication radios set to eardrum damage level, and they go off in the middle of the film!
At least there is no longer folks who try to smoke in the theatre anymore. (That and beer were my biggest task when I was an Usher, and made many enemies when I confiscated the beer, and forced the smoker to step out to the lobby during the film. (Remember this was the 70's when you could smoke in the lobby of the theatre.)

| | Posted: | | | | All I can say is WOW! My wife and I used to love the movies. When we first started dating we didn't go all the time but often. There were a few things that just killed the experience for us. We saw Star Wars EP 1 on opening night 12:00am showing. We had rude people with the chair things but were able to work it out. The manager came out and yelled at the audience that yes it was a Star Wars movie yes it was to be fun, but if you made an ass of yourself you were gone. They even tossed out a few groups out rowdies. When we went to Godzilla is when the bad experiences at the movies started. We went to the midnight showing and someone brought their children including one under a year old. It the kid had screamed at the top of its lungs during monster scenes I could have dealt with it. The problem is it was quiet during monster scenes and screeched at the top of its lungs during dialog. Then 10 minutes before the film ended the husband and wife had an argument because he wanted to leave to avoid traffic. The theater employees did nothing.
The next issue is the price. Our first movie was under $5.00 per person for an evening moving. We were able to have a nice date for under $30.00: a nice dinner and then the film. Now an evening movie is on its way to $75.00 for us. Between the movie, sodas, popcorn if we have it, and dinner, it is Hellishly expensive. We started buying the films on DVD (over 800 in our collection) and then going out and buying a nice dinner. $75.00 went from one movie and a modest dinner to a few DVDs and a steak dinner with wine.
I am starting to go back to the movies again because one of my professors, like me, loves zombie movies. We have been grabbing a burger and then seeing the early afternoon showings. It has worked well. Then again most zombie movies are rated R so that means few to no children. The best answer to rude people at the movies I found is to go in a group. My friend Mike is somewhat uncouth. When we had the rude lady explaining the movie to her kid he turned around and loud enough so everyone heard told her to shut up or leave (expletives removed). |
