Someone keeps claiming that Oliver Stone makes films.

I've seen something by that name, but none of it could be considered film.

As bad or a director as he is and as many turkeys as he has made he did give us "Any Given Sunday" and "Platoon".  Both which were great movies...

Sorry. I still cannot see them.

"Any Given Sunday" (quoting AMG): "... irritatingly loud and in-your-face ..." "...epic in length rather than quality ..." "... gives the sport a video-game makeover -- fast and totally artificial ..." "... the film's constant shouting quickly becomes abrasive ..." "... the most distracting elements to ring false are the details of the games, none of whose outcomes are in doubt ..." "... a sea of visual gimmickry that the director has done better in almost any of his other films ..."

"Platoon": Exploitative macho posturing... and I found the characters to be mere stereotypes. I really do not like anything Stone has touched.

Sorry. Enjoy them. I cannot.
If it wasn't for bad taste, I wouldn't have no taste at all.

I remember rumors of movie(s) starring that kid from Uncle Buck.  He was left home...by himself...

Apparently (allegedly?) they were humorous.
Bad movie?  You're soaking in it!

VibroCount,
By chance did you serve in Viet Nam? I did and found Platoon fairly accurate. I was in the 2/173rd ABN BDE.

I served four years, one month & seventeen days fighting the VietNam war from Texas, Mississippi, and Florida. I had two sets of orders for Tan Son Nhut, the first cancelled by a clerical error, the second one cancelled by President Nixon the day before he was reelected.

Never served out of the USA, but why should that affect the stereotypicality of his characters? Everyone I met who went to VietNam was infinitely more complex than any Oliver Stone character.

Simply: I do not enjoy watching that film, or any other Oliver Stone film.

Accuracy gives no pleasure if the film relies on characters I find shallow, one-dimensional, and obnoxious. ... Just as I dislike "Darling" and other films where I simply do not care about anything that happens to any character in the film.

If you enjoy the accuracy of "Platoon" to the time you served there, wonderful. Please do not expect me to enjoy having this film inflicted upon me again.
If it wasn't for bad taste, I wouldn't have no taste at all.

Correct me if I am wrong, but wasn't that the point?
No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.
The Centauri learned this lesson once.
We will teach it to them again.
Though it take a thousand years, we will be free.

Thank you for your service, Cliff. Vietnam was a bloody mess, not because of anything other than Congress sticking its nose into it and trying to control the war from DC, kinda of like...now. War is a stupid and violent game, but as with any other game if one feels obliged to play there is only one way to play...WIN!! That is as close to a political comment as I will present here.

I'd rather this was about bad films... than my inability to be a well-behaved member of the armed forces.

Yes, let's keep it about films.  For instance, I even heard they were thinking of making sequels to Jaws.  Thank god that never happened.

I know I will probably get the lash for this but I liked JAWS 2.  Electrocuting him at the end of 2 was a great ending.  Three and four really sucked and I hope Hollywood isn't serious about JAWS 5.  Yes that is supposedly why the game came out this year was to get people excited.  Anyway they did make a JAWS 1 and 2 as for any others I am sure you are right and it was just a rumor...

Sure, and they're still filming new Seinfeld episodes, but only for export to Kazakhstan

THANK GOD.  the last thing I want to see is more Seinfeld episodes.  Glad to see it end a worthless show.

Oh man, I thought it was just me. I never liked Seinfeld even though it appears everyone loves it. I'm not alone!

In the mean time, apparently people have been remaking some seminal horror films like Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Hills Have Eyes, The Fog, even Halloween?!? Surely not?

Don't talk so daft! They may as well turn the Christopher Lee character into a woman if they were going to do that!

I've heard rumors of Nic Cage starring and wearing a bear-suit while drop-kicking evil bitches. If it ever does happen it sounds like cheesy fun.

He's the dude that only made one film:
Any given sunday

Guess some sorts of one-hit-wonder.

I've also heard someone made a film out of the book "2001 - a space odyssey", but that's just rubbish.
Also, there is only one Highlander, and only one Ringu. There were several rumors about remakes in different countries, but that must be wrong too.
