Red Sox all the way!!!!!

Ditto, though Colorado is a likeable outsider.

I guess I'm one of very few European baseball fans. I bought an mlb.com postseason ticket and have the possibility to watch every game on the Internet (which I did for the last couple of weeks, because I had some days off). Unfortunately I can't watch the World Series live - the games are simply too late at night for me when I have to work. I always catch up on the next day, though.

I've actually taken holiday off work to watch it.  I'm hoping that the Rockies win at least one game before Sunday night, as the only day I couldn't book off was Monday.  Knowing my luck though, the Sox will sweep, and I'll miss the game where they win 4-0 on Sunday night.
They sought it with thimbles, they sought it with care,
They pursued it with forks and hope.
They threatened it's life with a railway share,
They charmed it with smiles and soap

How much did you pay the match official to disallow our try

This is still hurting Caroline, especially as I work with a guy from Jo'burg who reminds me every day

Just saw on the news today that 60 percent of Rhode Islanders have watched the sox game last night. Talk about a sports nation. Between The patriots who are unstoppable right now and the sox in their 2nd world series in the last 3 years New England fans have it all. Now if we can get  the Celtics back to the winning dynasty they were in the 80's....

Cowboy UP.

However, in Ice Hockey the champions aren't given the crown of World Champions. Which seems rather odd, because at least Canadian teams complete in that. But then again, the Canadians frequently win and you can have a non US World Champion

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ice_Hockey_World_Championships

US is actually pretty bad at Ice Hockey    a lot of the "top" players in NHL are from other countries, so when theres a "World Championship" they do pretty badly. Another point is that US doesnt really care about the actual World Championship, so lot of players dont play. But last time (was World Cup) when there wasnt an NHL season going on, Finland still won US (though losed to Canada)

Anyway here they play Pesäpallo, which is slightly diffrent to baseball, so dont know much about it.

Here in the U.S. nobody really cares about Ice Hockey anymore. I remember growing up in the '80s and talking to the kids in my elementary school about the Chicago Blackhawks, since I grew up outside of Chicago. One of the biggest names in hockey at the time was Wayne Gretsky. Ask a kid to name a hockey player here in the U.S. and you just might get a blank stare.

Maybe that's because the lock out and cancellation of the 2004-2005 season took care of the NHL being non-lucrative for major TV stations for years to come. Plus, the majority of the audience blamed the players, not the owners for the lost season, something that's probably keep you away from the ice rink and makes you switch to another showing on ESPN 2 or whatever sports channel does NOT show the NHL. Which is making the franchise even less attractive for broadcasts. and sports that don't get prime exposure on the networks simply do not exist for the average Joe in the US.

Edit:

Found something that may be interesting on wikipedia:

A noted trend unrelated to hockey but at least partially caused by the NHL lockout is the massive increase in the popularity of Texas hold 'em. In Canada, Texas hold 'em has reportedly replaced stud poker as the most commonly played form of poker, and in the United States, ESPN's telecasts of events like the World Series of Poker gained ratings so much above that of the NHL games they replaced that it may be one of the reasons that ESPN did not bid for a new television contract that took effect when play resumed. Instead, OLN (now Versus) became the new cable and satellite carrier of NHL games in the U.S.

Canadian sports fans also turned to the Canadian Football League, and the CFL recorded significant increases in attendance and television ratings during the final weeks of the 2004 CFL season compared to 2003, ultimately setting a new record for total playoff attendance. The league was able to hold onto at least some of these gains in 2005.

Buffalo New York has some of the most avid hockey fans in all of North America; our television ratings are among the highest, if not the highest, of any city. Not only do we sell out every game we often have thousands of fans partying outside the arena during home games. Most of the Sabres games are televised on MSG with a rare one on Versus. Since I am lucky enough to live close to Canada, I also get to watch Hockey Night in Canada. I agree that the NHL lock out caused some problems, as it did in every sport that had that situation but I don't blame the players. My wrath is reserved primarily for the commissioner Gary Bettman and secondarily the owners. I have little hope the NHL will regain its elite status until Bettman is gone.
