Haven't kept up with the times apparently. My displays at work do not have the degauss option and I held a magnet up near the screen. It had no affect. So none of my suggestions were helpful or applicable, sorry for that.
Tlevel mentioned an opposite problem Sony had with their TVs. So, perhaps a call to Westinghouse may be the best thing to do.

| | Posted: | | | | They look very similar to dark markings that we had on the LCD screens at work. I'll ask at work tomorrow to see if they know what caused it.
I do know they never fixed it, they recently replaced the screens instead. Whether it was because they couldn't fix it or couldn't be bothered (the screens were getting replaced for another reason) I don't know. |

| | Posted: | | | | LCD is not susceptible to burn-in. That is something that happens to older and lower quality plasma TV's. I asked the guys at work that deal with home theater and they said they have no idea and suggest you contact the manufacturer to see if it is an issue they are aware of. Since you TV's more than a year old it is not likely under manufacturers warrantee. If you have a secondary protection plan you might want to put it in effect. Either way this is not normal wear and tear an may be a defect with your LCD Display. |

The boffins here believe that their smudges was caused by an accumulation of dust that managed to find it's way between the screen and the diodes. If it is the same problem (I don't know how old your screen is), unfortunately they say the only way to fix it is to remove the screen and clean it!  |

If it is the same problem (I don't know how old your screen is), unfortunately they say the only way to fix it is to remove the screen and clean it! I've had it for about 14 months. Also, those who say LCD has no burn-in are simply wrong. Almost every time I play a video game now, I see remnants of the image in the screen afterwards. I usually have to turn my TV off for hours afterwards to get rid of it.
This entire process is beginning to frustate me. I love my HDTV, and I have a PS3 and HD-DVD player, as well as DirecTVHD, but this is beginning to be more trouble than it's worth, especially when nobody knows what's going on> Westinghouse had no clue, nobody's replied at AVS (typical), and the mods haven't eve n put my post up at HTF. | | | "I am Andrew Ryan and I am here to ask you a question:
