Always a worthwhile resolution (says the man with nine cats).

I think I'll tack on a resolution to be less like my cats and not procrastinate so much (but I'll probably get to that one next year).

Stop buying DVDs...

But no, seriously: quit smoking

This is the best part about this new year: We have now a smoking ban in Germany
I hope I didn't make many enemies with this statement

My New Year's Resolution (the first time I seriously made one): I set myself a budget limit for this year's DVD purchases (let's see how long this resolution will last  )

lighten up on spending, therefore reducing debt and saving... while going on a diet, and enjoying more of the things i've already purchased myself like movies and videogames, instead of going out and spending money or buying more things.....

That's very much like my own resolution. I have to enjoy the games and movies I've already bought, instead of buying new ones all the time.

I have that problem too.  I suspect it's a common ailment to those who post here frequently.

Well, so if I fail to get done with it before that, it should be easy to kick the habit while visiting Germany in early March

So, what exactly does it mean? No smoking in public places? ( was always surprised to see that Germany was the last place I knew where the smoking areas in airports were open and not separated little rooms... )

Hi, some more informations HERE

Here in Hamburg, it's forbidden in e.g. restaurants and pubs, but the administration does not have the human resources to control this. So AFAIK they are depending on a kind of denunciation from other people.

Look HERE as well!

But if you stop smoking now(!), you're on the safe side. If i had'n t stop smoking (I quitted smoking from one day to another, no reducing or something like this - just stopped immediately), my dvd collection would be much smaller yet.

Yes, no smoking in restaurants, night clubs, pubs etc. (not even a smoking area). This depends somewhat in which state you are in. In Bavaria for example, where I live, this new ban has one of the strictest enforcements. Here no exceptions to this ban are allowed.
Regarding airports: I am a little surprise, looking at the table at Wikipedia, that not all states prohibit smoking at the airport.

In Italy we have a smoking ban in restaurants and pubs since January 2005 (apart from special rooms for smokers only). The amazing fact is that the ban is actually enforced, as opposite to most laws in my country ;DDD

I remember that Salt Lake City had a smoking section at the far end of one of their terminals and I occupied it when flying before I quit smoking.

Washington has a smoking ban in that you can't smoke in any place of business and you can't smoke within 25 feet of any door or window.

That'll make 2 of us then.
