What about Star Trek DS9?

You could start with season 1 and 2!

Missing but essential John Ford:

MY DARLING CLEMENTINE
HOW GREEN WAS MY VALLEY
GRAPES OF WRATH
DRUMS ALONG THE MOHAWK
YOUNG MR. LINCOLN

Cavalry Trilogy:
Fort Apache
She Wore a Yellow Ribbon
Rio Grande (you already have this)

There are a few relatively inexpensive box sets that would enable you to get most of these quite cheaply.

Thanks to everyone that responded. I now have a substantial list to select from:

High Fidelity: I like John Cusack and have been meaning to add this title to my collection.
The Complete Monty Python's Flying Circus 16-Ton Megaset: Love Monty Python! I actually own Vol. 1 of this set on VHS (was gifted to me years ago for Christmas).
Boondocks: Season 1: Not really into this. I do love the classics though: Flintstones, Bugs Bunny, The Roadrunner, Tom & Jerry, etc.
The Great Raid: I’ve seen this on the shelves at Target and it looked interesting (love a good WWII movie)…but Benjamin Bratt? He’s never impressed me much but maybe…
American Beauty: I don’t know. Everything I’ve read about this film sounds so, I don’t know…depressing?
About a Boy: The reviews look promising…
Being John Malkovich: A definite “Gonna get this one”.
Good Will Hunting: I rented this one after it was released to video. I liked it…a definite…maybe.
Ghidorah, The Three Headed Monster: Absolutely gotta have Godzilla 5!
Invasion of Astro-Monster: Another Godzilla gotta have!
Ghost in the Shell: Not into anime.
Innerspace: I have this film on VHS and love it. Martin Short is great.
Earth Girls Are Easy: I also have this film on VHS…will have to get the DVD.
Cypher: Never heard of it until now. Must have been direct to DVD? Looks interesting though.
Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy: Was thouroughly disappointed in the 2005 film version…it was nothing like the book or radio plays. At least the 2002 release of the TV series was actually based on the radio plays and book. We’ll see.
Solaris: At first I thought you were talking about the version with George Clooney. Talk about a suck fest! That version was soooo bad that I almost tossed it. Will look into getting Andrei Tarkovsky’s 1972 Criterion Collection version though.
Pi: Reviews were mixed on this one. The premise looks interesting though.
The Day of the Triffids: I’ve got a crappy copy of this…been meaning to replace it.
Barbarella, Queen of the Galaxy: NO to anything with Hanoi Jane. I don’t own a single title with that traitor it. On the day she publicly apologizes to all of the Vietnam Vets for providing aid and comfort to the enemy I will add her films to my collection…maybe. Please…no comments regarding this…it’s how I feel.
Fahrenheit 451: Not in my collection??? How did that happen? Great film adaptation of one of my favorite Bradbury novels.
Delicatessen: Hmmm…Looks tasty.
Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956) : I actually own the ’56 version.
Metropolis: Definitely will look into getting a better version than the one I own. It’s included in the “Tales From the Future” 9 title set on 3 discs.
Babylon 5: I’ve never seen an episode of this series. I think I’ll rent one first and see.
Battle Royale: Looks interesting. I own another title kinda along the same lines…The Condemned.
B13: 13th District: Own this one.
Sunshine: Ralph Fiennes & Rachel Weisz…two wonderful actors. Sounds like a very powerful film. A definite must add.
Casshern: Mixed reviews but I like a good Sci-Fi.
Farscape: Another…haven’t seen. Been meaning to rent some episodes and check it out.
Star Trek: DS9: Will be getting the Complete set in the next couple of months.
My Darling Clementine: Must have for my classic western collection
How Green was My Valley: A must have.
Grapes of Wrath: I live smack dab in the middle of “Steinbeck Country” and don’t own a single title based on his works. I work about 4 blocks from the National Steinbeck Center and have never even visited. We were so inundated with Steinbeck as children in school that I guess I got sick of hearing his name…lol.
Drums Along the Mohawk: Been meaning to get this title.
Cavalry Trilogy: Can’t find this title available anywhere. I’ve been meaning to get Fort Apache & She Wore a Yellow Ribbon though for my John Wayne collection.
Hitchcock: Can’t get enough…slowly but surely I’ll be adding more Hitchcock titles.

About a Boy: The reviews look promising…

This one is actually one of the few good Hugh Grant movies, probably because it's not mainly a romantic comedy centered around the male lead. I enjoyed it a lot and that's a lot of praise for anything with Hugh Grant coming from me (mostly own his movies to entertain the females...)

Being John Malkovich: A definite “Gonna get this one”.

Do so, you won't be disappointed.

Cypher: Never heard of it until now. Must have been direct to DVD? Looks interesting though.

It's interesting, alright, but I made the mistake of falling for it because it's from the same director as "Cube", and while both are thrillers messing with your mind, the approach is somewhat different between these two vehicles. It's definitely ok, but nothing I still own.

Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy: Was thouroughly disappointed in the 2005 film version…it was nothing like the book or radio plays.

And it doesn't get better with time, I can assure you...

Babylon 5: I’ve never seen an episode of this series. I think I’ll rent one first and see.

Although it won't help you, renting the first season won't get you hooked, probably (might be godd either way, saving money, y'a know?). This is a series that actually starts taking off somewhere in the middle or towards the end of season two, but starting there won't be possible as the connections of the characters and the storyline are too complex to just dive in in the middle. It's definitely one of the best Sci-Fi TV shows ever put out, and most enjoyable to watch.

Battle Royale: Looks interesting. I own another title kinda along the same lines…The Condemned.

Believe me, The Condemned is NOTHING like this one (if you're talking about the 2007 flic with Steve Austin, that is). And BR is just great (just make sure to get the first one in an unrated edition, and don't bother with part 2).

Sunshine: Ralph Fiennes & Rachel Weisz…two wonderful actors. Sounds like a very powerful film. A definite must add.

Just beware not to pick up Danny Boyle's Sunshine from 2007 (which, btw, is the one the above linked youtube clip points to), as that's a mediocre SciFi-film that falls way short of its potential.

Casshern: Mixed reviews but I like a good Sci-Fi.

Boring, way too long and not anywhere near a good real-film adaption of a japanese comic book. If you don't like Anime (and not only for the fact that their animated films), you'll probably not like this one either.

I’m of the same opinion of Hugh Grant….can take him or leave him. I’ll give this one a “Really Want”.

Many people rave about this Sci-Fi series…I suppose for good reason. I’ll have to check it out for sure. I can usually get a good feel as to whether I’ll like a series by watching a few episodes.

By being kinda along the same lines, I meant that the premise was similar…a group of people on a deserted island forced to hunt one another for survival. Anywhooo…I’ll give this one a “Need it”.

My bad. I didn’t check the actual youtube clip…just the title. I think you’re right about Danny Boyle's Sunshine. I’ll stick with Rachel Weisz

Odd. I checked the reviews at Amazon and they refer to this film as a mix of live action drama and animated effects. It’s not that I don’t like animated films per se. I liked Toy Story, Monsters, Inc., Ants, Ice Age, Robots, The Incredibles, A bug’s Life, etc. Other than Final Fantasy, I just never got into Japanese Anime.

Thanks for your recommendations…very helpful

If I were to purchase all of the titles in my list from Best Buy.com, excluding the TV series box sets, the total would come to roughly $538.73 not including shipping   . Looks like I have some trimming to do .

The Cavalry Trilogy refers to the 3 John Wayne/John Ford calvary movies, Fort Apache, She Wore a Yellow Ribbon and Rio Grande.  I wasn't sure if you were clear on that based on your statement.
