I'm sorry, I must be reading the poll options wrong as they both seem the same.

one says take them all out except legal birth years and the other says leave them if they are in the database (which would mean that that have already been accepted anyway and are legal)

Unless i'm missing something

-Agrare

I agree with you - both options are identical.

I have to say skip is right, but AA I would like the birthdays, not only the years, in the database.
More out of interest, I know use Wikipedia or even IMDB...

I just don't know why this option of by is actually in the database?
Okay to make a difference between two same named actors/actresses but still, one would see it from the photo if they have the correct one... But that is actually another topic I guess

a) The BYs were invented to get a workaround. - Since then the discussion about them never ended...
b) The photos are even less reliable, since they are not contributed Invelos and therefore not presented for voting... Each and everone can submit any photo he/she likes with no controlling instance...

Regards, AA
Complete list of Common Names  •  A good point for starting with Headshots (and v11.1)

The BY's were created so that Name + BY = unique person = means of separateing actors  so that they can be shown against different films without mixing them up. (and the headshot is added bonus)

Correct, pauls, they were NEVER a workaround. They were used with a very specific function, and function that separates Profiler from other Dbs.

Skip
ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!!

I don't understand why you think both options are identical?  The "only legal dupes" option would remove the BY from everyone in the headshot db that doesn't have someone else with the same name.  Please note that this does not include cast members without a headshot.  The headshot database doesn't have people without headshots.

While you may have multiple John Doe's in your database, if John Doe only exists in the headshot db once (ie: only one has a headshot), the BY would be removed.

The other option allows for all valid Birth Years to be left in regardless if there's multiple John Doe's with headshots or not.

I just added birthyears for Steve Harris.

Steve Harris 1957 - Iron Maiden's bass player.
Steve Harris 1965 - African American actor.

Beware that according to IMDB, even more actors share the name Steve Harris. Apparently, the guest star in Season 3 of Sex and the City is called Steve Richard Harris, credited as Steve Harris. When I get the time I will search for the necessary proof to contribute it to the database.
