Here is what I use in the address bar: file://c:\..../blah.html - does that work for you? (both c:\ and c:/ seem to work) For my HTML sections, such as in the Plugin DVDProfileLoop, I use: <HTML> <HEAD> <TITLE>For Sale</TITLE> </HEAD> <FRAMESET> <FRAME src="c:\forsale.html"> </FRAMESET> </HTML> The plugin then creates the file "forsale.html" dynamically, forces a profile display refresh and the HTML section pops up in a hosted window. By the way, I'm trying to understand this comment: "... one of the huge annoyances with Internet Explorer is it wont open files on the local machine." Somehow I thought I did that all the time ... what am I missing here? What I mean is it won't open other files from a html link. My links point to playlist .m3u files, without the registry change IE won't do anything. As I said in the last post I'm not very computer knowledgeable so there may be something here I'm missing, but since I did find that Micrsoft article at one time I think this is correct. If any does know the fix or can tell me if I'm doing something wrong please let me know. Now I did find out that many viruses make the same registry change so if you've had one of those it's already fixed for you. I'll try to post some more about using the remote later tonight but the program I use is called "Event Ghost". It has plugins already included to control most media player although VLC is the only one I have found that will start playback from a folder instead of an actual file and play full screen on the monitor of which you click the link. You will also need a infra red receiver and then any remote will do. Oh, Event Ghost is free and is an amazing program, check it out, http://www.eventghost.org Thanks again Rich |

I assume you have pop-upp blockers turned off in IE/Tools ?
After I turned off popup-blocking, I could enter things like:
(1) c:\program files\videolan\vlc\vlc.exe, and vlc started, but with annoying security dialogues
c:\isos\test.m3u started up vlc player with the playlist, which included ISOs. I had to associate VLC.exe with m3U and also turn off the file download prompt
I had mixed results with other files. ISOs would not start, but avi did sometimes - ofterm 2 or 3 minutes later! (I have a 4GB machine!)
So, the jury is stiill out. But with pop-ups off, the m3U files played consistently and quickly on my machine. | | | Thanks for your support.

One thing to note here, IE will start the files when the path is entered into the address bar but not when clicking on a link. I don't know which way you were trying but I mention this just so were on the same page. Right now I have a copy of DVD Profiler on this computer on my desk, I only use it to do edits or enter new information, My "Entertainment" computer sits on top of my piano so it's uncomfortable to sit and work on that one. I applied the reg fix to the entertainment computer and it works as it should. I never bothered with this computer since I don't use it to watch movies but the links don't work. If I change the links to something that doesn't exist then I get the page not found error but when pointed to the .m3u files it doesn't do anything when clicking on the links. Before I found DVD Profiler I made a html page with links to my playlist files. It was very time consuming to have to edit it every time I got a new DVD, especially since I usually buy 20 or 30 at a time. My default browser is Firefox and everything worked as should. When I got DVD Pro it took me forever to figure out why the links I added wouldn't do anything, I figured I was doing something wrong. While trying to figure out the problem I tried opening my original html page in IE and the links wouldn't work in there either. That's when I figured out it's an EI thing and not something I was doing. While looking for help in a forum some where, someone pointed my to the Microsoft guide with the registry change information. After applying that the links started working correctly in IE and DVD Profiler. I wish I could find the page again, I'll keep looking for it and let you know if I do. I have IE6 on this machine so I don't think it's a version issue... but I don't know. I'll start a new thread with the remote explanation, it doesn't really fit in this one. So if you use IE to browse the internet you may not want to do it. Just a thought, is there a reason why DVD Profilers HTML windows are IE windows and can't be from what ever default browser? My guess would be that there are way to many variables to try and make it works with everything. Anyway, this whole thread was for information for Trailertrash. Did he get what he wanted?
