I'm coming a little late to this discussion, but I thought I would share the discovery I made. I have the LG GGC-H20L HD-DVD & Blu-ray ROM drive, that I picked up at Fry's not too long ago. I was running Cyberlink 7.3 Ultra and up until I got The Day The Earth Stood Still: 3-Disc Edition, I had no problem playing back both Blu-Ray and HD-DVD titles on my computer.
The other day, I popped in the 1951 version, as I was creating a child profile for that from a clone of the Regular release that had come out earlier, and I was informed that I needed to update my software with a patch to play this Blu-Ray disc. No problem. I downloaded the patch, installed it, and the menu loaded, but I couldn't navigate or anything. I decided that perhaps I should upgrade my version of PowerDVD and looked on their website for my upgrade options. I could only buy version 9. I didn't notice or know that they had removed HD-DVD playback, until after I had paid for it, downloaded it, and installed it.
Needless to say, I was unhappy. I uninstalled version 9 and reinstalled 7.3, but for some reason things didn't work out and I had even more problems. I did some searching and came across WinDVD 9 from Corel. It supports both HD formats and is cheaper than what Cyberlink wanted for just the upgrade.

I got the same message for Quantum of Solace and went ahead and upgraded to PowerDVD 9 too.
However 7.3 remained on my machine. I don't remember picking a special version or asking for a full version (I think that was more expensive).

I know, I could install the trial version, but I don't want to install something that might conflict with my (still working) copy of PowerDVD. 

It works great with HD DVD and I have had it installed alongside Power DVD without any conflicts at all. It even integrates with Media Centre, unlike PowerDVD 7 or 8.
