Only seen that happen with Pioneers R1 releases, so annoying. But with the security stickers and other crap manufacturers there add to the cases, its just the cherry on the top

Being from the litigious crazy U.S., I just had a thought at the mention of using scissors to aid in sticker removal, etc.

There was that infamous suit against McDonalds over someone getting a burn from thier overly hot coffee...so I wonder when we're going to hear about someone sueing the dvd distributer because they cut themselves trying to remove the shrinkwrap and stickers from a DVD case?

After that happens we'll see disclaimers and warnings to the consumer that removal of stickers can be hazardous to your health.

Considering that I use a steak knife to cut the plastic wrapping and if DVD the security sticker all in one go, it's only a matter of time....

I also have a problem with the security stickers - they NEVER come off easily and almost always leave a residue. When there are more than 1 it is a mojor pain! Also, not all of them have a 'pull here' label, and even then these don't come away easily.

A product called Goo Gone® (if you can get it) will help get the sticky residue from things.  I don't know what it's made from, but it has a citrus smell to it (label on the bottle I have in hand has a picture of an orange and says "Citrus Power") -- and it's harmful if swallowed and flammable -- but it works well.  It's supposed to be remove "Stickers, grease, gum, tar, crayon, tape."

I've used it to get the residue from the keep case itself, but not from the cover insert -- or from the cardboard part of a snapper cover.  For a sticker on the outside of the keep case, I put a few drops on the label, spread it around so the whole label is wet, wait a while, and then I can usually remove the whole label in one piece.  Any remaining residue will come off by adding another drop and rubbing gently with a clean cloth (old T-shirts are good for this).

Although I haven't tried using it on a DVD keeper insert, I have used it on magazine covers and it doesn't seem to damage the cover, but it will get rid of the label and any residue.

I was using the scissors before to remove the plastic wrapping and yes I've cut myself (not funny to stick the hand with the hairdresser model). But I'm not from the US so the idea to go at court with that never cross my mind.

My reaction : You were stupid now laugh at yourself

I use a teeny little version of a Stanley Knife (maybe boxcutter to you) I set it about 1/4" out and run it around the seam. It gets the labels, the shrink wrap and misses my fingers so far. I always cut the security lables as it's easier to take them from the cut seam rather than from the edge, you don't stretch the plastic cover on the disk case that way...
