That should make it $9.80 per gallon for unleaded and $10.20 per gallon for diesel

I'm currently paying about £1.10 a litre for unleaded (roughly £5.50 a gallon) which equates to $10.76 or €6.91 a gallon

Yikes! I guess $3.50 here is still cheap then. I think it is mandatory in this state now to refine gasoline with 10% (or some percentage at least) ethanol.

I heard it's $16-$18 for a gallon of gas in Aruba.

Supply & demand and a free market will take care of prices. As more people are priced out (can't afford) supply will build forcing a lowering of prices. Government fooling around with prices only makes thing worse.

They're blaming the raising cost of corn on laws requiring ethanol in the fuel.

A local radio station had a promotion with a gas station, in which the gas station charged .99 cents per gallon and the radio station paid the other $3.00 per gallon for two hours.

People started lining up at 10:30 PM the previous night for the 8 am to 10 am window. The news reported that the line had some 250 cars stretching 2 miles.

Even rounding up to 300 cars, if they stretched for 2 miles, then that's an average of more than 10m/30ft per car

It's another reason to stay at home and watch a DVD.
and That is why my 1990 Ford F150 has only 18,600 miles on it.
It would cast about $150 to fill it up.

What makes this whole thing even worse, especially in the US, is that some of us were sounding the alarm about the damn tree-hugging, Bambi-loving, whacko environmentalists 30 years ago when the last refinery was built.  That's why we don't just import crude oil, we also import refined gasoline.

There is more oil today that we know about in the ground than there was back when gas was only $.40 a gallon.  We've got tankers sitting 5 deep off shore waiting to unload because there isn't enough storage capacity.  Why?  The tank farms can't accept more raw crude because there aren't enough refineries to process the stuff they've already got bunikered.

Then, for icing on the cake, we can't drill in the Arctic, off the coasts of California or Florida, despite the fact that there has never been a major spill incident.  In addition, President Clinton fixed it so we can't mine the largest deposit of sweet coal in the world, which would provide us with 200 years worth of home grown energy, when he made the area into a wilderness preserve.

Liberals and liberalism will destroy this country (god help us if Obama is elected), and as we go, so goes the world.

So... you would much rather live there? ->

The whacko tree-hugging, Bambi-loving environmentalists are the reason you dont see that in your neighbourhood. I'm sorry for not feeling your pain about breathing fresh air. or for the fact that your children will live in a better world. See to me, the extra saved dollars just wouldnt be worth it.

what can we do right now to lower the price of gas:

the first thing i can think of is;  close all drive throughs all of us should stop using them.
is it really quicker? no, we're just lazy!
make all public transportation free; how do we pay for it? when we buy our tag, charge us an extra 15-20 dollars, if i'm going to waste our resources, by driving a car, i should have to pay for it!

what can you think of to do?

stop thinking that the "Government" is here to help us, when we decide to change, change will happen

turn off your computer and monitor too
unplug your chargers when your not charging something
replace all of your light bulbs, yeah they cost more in the beginning, but they last 10 years and use 70% less energy

be part of the solution
