BASIC or FORTRAN ?
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

My first computer;

Oric 1

Can't even remember which year my Dad brought it home from a business trip to England, but man did we enjoy it.

Oh.  VIC-20 was mine first also..  it had 2,5Kb of memory I remember..
my next was the comodore 128 (skiped the 64) and it had 128Kb of memory -- the sky was the limit as I also got a 5 1/4" discdrive with 750Kb discs...
We are all at the same age, only at different time...

I have an emulator program for the VIC-20, C64, C128, as well as the Pet that all fits in my ThumbDrive!

Everyone once in a while, just for old times sake, I'll load it up and do a simple:

10 PRINT "Hello World"
20 GOTO 10

Ahhh...memories.....

My first computer:

I chose the construction set where you had to solder the mainboard yourself.
It was a hell of a work and took me two months but saved me about $ 500,- (which is a whole lot of money for a 15 year old pupil)
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

I started programming on the Atari 800 back in the early 80's and then on the Atari 800 XL that my parents got me.

I used that thing so much that the 1050 floppy drive failed because the metal plate that was used to lift the drive clamp (it was flexed ever so slightly when you locked the clamp in place) snapped from metal fatigue.  Had to take the drive apart so I could press down on the clamp so the disk would spin and read.

Mine was an Oric Atmos. It's probably still boxed somewhere in my parents' attic. Sweet programming memories indeed....
