My favourites have to be white (wheat) beers/"Kristallklar" types, especially those by Ayinger, Weihenstephaner, Franziskaner and Kapuziner... especially delicious in these warm summer days...

Find a LARGE, well-stocked liquor store (Famous Liquors is a large chain that fits the bill) and they should have several dozen different brands of very unique and tasty brews.  There are hundreds of small boutique style microbreweries that have cropped up all over America, and they put out some of the best beer you'll find anywhere in the world -- from traditional style like steam beer, to weird and wonderful specialty brews, and everything in between.

If you come through the upper Midwest (Northern Illinois/Southern Wisconsin) try Berghoff.  They make six varieties: Dark, Bock, Red Ale, Pilsner, Wheat, and Lager.  The Red Ale and Dark are particularly good, and inexpensive too!  Most of all, enjoy!

PS:  Miller is now called "Miller Genuine Draft" and you should be able to get it in any supermarket or liquor store.  Not bad for a so-called "premium" American beer if you're only going to have one or two, but like most American pilsner style beer it turns kind of "skunky" after the 2nd round.  That goes for Bud, Michelob, Coors, Olympia, Pabst, etc.  For most Americans, enjoying full bodied, full strength beer is an acquired taste that they never develop.

From reading the label, I notice that it (not to mention the other empties around......Bud, Miller) are all brewed in the UK, so it's debatable just how close they are to "real" US beer....so much for my scientific research project!

No problem at all.  I'm actually quite spoiled when it comes to beer, because I prefer my own home brew to almost anything I can buy (though Berghoff Red Ale is a fair substitute).  It is sort of a cross between a red ale and and an amber bock, very "hoppy", and runs about 8-9% alcohol.  Very complex and smooth on the palette, with a slight nutty flavor to the finish.  You can drink several of them one after the next, and they don't lose the flavor or get "skunky" -- but my limit is three because any more than that and you're toasted!    Takes a lot of work to make though, so I haven't brewed any lately.  One batch will do for about 5 cases of long necks.  That's 120 12 oz. bottles, and the beer improves as it ages up to about 6 months.

Thanks for the tip. I just checked: they import something called "Eku Hell" here.

Eku Hell

The name is splendid although I know it's not in English  and I know what Hell means in German when beers are concerned. I guess this one is now in my list of "I'd better check out"-beers. There are also other brands by Kulmbacher that can be bought easily here.

Yepp, this EKU is really a hell! Many, many years ago I enjoyed 2 cold Ekus28 in the heat of a summer afternoon. After standing up, I had the feeling like being hit by a sledgehammer! 

BTW: Do you have in Finland still the "Vinmonopolet" stores? So many time ago I've been in Finland.
