There's a possibility it was shown on the Brussels International Festival of Fantastic Film. I have the program guides since 1988 (missing 89 and 91). I'll go through them over the weekend. I'll get back to you with the result.

Thanks, that would be great!

Just checked 1988-2002, the only Scandinavian SF film I could find is "Flight of the Navigator", a Norwegian/US co-production directed by Randall Kleiser, but I don't think it's the one.

I asked a friend to check 89 and 91 since I miss those program guides.

Going through the program guides, I must say it was more in the second half of the 90s that Scandinavian films became part of the festival's programming. And most of them are thrillers.

As soon as I get info from my friend I'll let you know.

It may be a really obscure little picture. I seem to recall that the budget seemed quite small, so it may have not even had a theatrical run...or much of one. It almost seemed like a film you'd see on an episode of Mystery Science Theater 3000, perhaps for the bad english dubbing. Many thanks though, I appreciate it!!!

What I've posted is sadly about all that I can recall of the film now. I'm remembering that the "bad guy" with the shiny headpiece was perhaps the overlord of the mining colony and pushed the people to the limits like slaves. It's been a good 9-10 years since renting it on VHS at Blockbuster, of that I'm positive. I'm fairly sure that it was a film from a Scandinavian country, yes.

Could it be Moon 44?

The only other title that repeatedly comes up in my searches is the less likely Outland.

I own Outland, so that's not it. I've seen Moon 44 before, but I'm quite sure that's not the one. The basic plot of Moon 44 sounds close however...

I can't honestly recall any recognizable actors that were in the film.

Nope, seen it.

I'm beginning to think I've only dreamed this movie. Yet the images are vividly there in my head and they've been there floating for years, wondering.

You do realise there are two (that I can recall off the top of my head) movies called simply "Beowulf", and others too (like Beowulf & Grendel)?  Meanwhile, I don't know where mining comes in.

Sure it wasn't Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs

Neither of these are Scandinavian, but both are space movies with miners or mining:

Enemy Mine
Within the Rock

Now I'm sure it's not this, but it can't hurt to ask [link]
