Still looks better than the CGI "animation" in this newest piece of fecal matter.

I have the first trilogy on laserdiscs (Special Edition box set), and the rest on DVD. That's good enough for me, as I really can't see the appeal in any of the movies. I like them as a kid, but when I bought them on laserdisc I only watched the first two, and never bothered with Return of the Jedi. Only one I liked was Attack of the Clones.

I realize my opinion is going to be extremely unpopular here and I will probably get hit with a lot of red arrows, but I think all of you just need to stop.  If you do not want Mr. Lucas to make money off of you do not buy his products.  I loved Star Wars as a kid.  It is one of my fondest memories playing the Rebellion with my friends and making the kid we all hated be the Empire.  George squeezes blood from stones for one reason and one reason only, we buy his products.  If I were he, I would also make money on something that I created.  You all say he has no imagination and that he is just stealing our money, lets not forget some of the things that he helped create or created including ILM and THX.  Two things that movies with 5 seconds of special effects would suck with out.  I would love for George to put out a definitive Blu-Ray collection of the films that doesn't include Greedo shooting first.  This may happen some day.  But I will no longer bad mouth or be accepting of anyone bad mouthing him just because they are mad because he put out another release that they feel they must have.

Don't get me wrong. I also grew up obsessed with all things Star Wars. I had the toys, the books, the pajamas, etc, etc. I bought all the previous re-issues, I paid to see the all the movies in theaters, I buy almost everything with Vader on it.

But I feel that Lucas has literally wrung the last drop of fun out of the franchise, simply because he hasn't added anything to the story. Sure, there may be new characters, new worlds, new lightsabers... but nothing really original.

('Course, I played the demo of Force Unleashed last night and darn near wet myself. So, I'm a bit of a hypocrite, I freely admit that.)

I never said that Lucas and his people hadn't contributed anything worthwhile. I still love Star Wars and I can't imagine the industry today without ILM & THX. But I still think George should focus on broadening the saga, instead of churning out more "Special Editions."

Well its happened.
Star Wars is being released again. This time in TWO Boxsets with "new" names. Star Wars: The PREQUEL trilogy and Star Wars: The Trilogy.

No details yet on features are exact composition. Are they going to be the Anamorphic restored Original films in the Prequels or the SE or maybe BOTH? Tune in for more details as they become available, boys and girls.

Those sets will NOT CONTAIN ANY NEW Materials.. Just new packaging..

And there will be no Blu Ray versions.. At least they aren't currently planned

Words cannot express how much I actually HATE George Lucas.

He's actually RUINED Star Wars for me.  I adore the original trilogy, but his pointless "improvements" made watching them a knuckle-chewing chore.  And Phantom Menace will go down as one of the worst films I've ever seen.  And I own Queen Kong.

Lucas reminds me of Muhammad Ali who at the end of his career  kept boxing and many thought he was just embarrassing himself. Or Bob Hope who even though it was apparent he was just reading cue cards kept doing those specials that made even someone like me who has all his movies & radio shows cringe.

He was a good director of such films like American Graffiti, and of course the 1st Star Wars film.
However on the two sequels Empire & Return, he had others work on the scripts and the direction
.
On Empire while he provided the story the late Leigh Brackett & Lawrence Kasdan actuality wrote the script , and Irvin Kershner directed. These three thing IMNSHO were what made Empire the best Star Wars movie.
And on Return he and Lawrence Kasdan wrote the screenplay and Richard Marquand directed.

Somehow he convinced that after a 18 year lay off he could just jump in and do all himself what others had helped him do in the past.
(OK I know he had help on Attack, but how much control did Lucas really give to his co-scriptwriter?)

I wonder if he is bankrupt of ideas, but will do anything to keep from being bankrupt in wealth. (Yeah like that could ever happen!)

Somehow he reminds me of Charles Foster Kane. Perhaps his last words will be, "Jar-Jar" as he lets a Boba Fett action figure fall from his hands.

I think Lucas should have handed over writing & directing jobs over to others for the prequels. Of course he could have come up with the story, but he should have handed the job over to someone else to polish up the screenplay.

It's what he did on ESB & ROTJ.

Just seems he was on an ego trip when he made the prequels and just had to do it all by himself.

I also think the prequels should have started with AOTC and the last one in the prequel trilogy could have told the story between the creation of Darth Vader and the events of A New Hope.

I just can't watch Phantom Menace that much anymore. That kid actor is just terrible and besides the final fight sequence it really is boring to me.

I do wish they would offer the box's for those that already own these films, which is likely most people.

I studied filmmaking with a few who went on to work at ILM... modelmakers, camera operators, prop makers, etc. This may be rumormongering, but each of these whom I have spoken with have affirmed that in many people's opinions the biggest loss Lucas suffered was when he and Marcia divorced.

Prior to Star Wars, she viewed hundreds of old WWI airplane dogfight films, choosing her favorite moments, finding 16mm prints, re-editing these scenes into mid-1970s action sequences. Then they used the Marcia Lucas edited sequences to create the storyboards for the outer space dogfight parts. She edited American Graffiti, Star Wars, Empire, Jedi, Taxi Driver, Alice Doesn't Live Here Any More, and nothing since they divorced.

It seems we lost a great editing talent.
If it wasn't for bad taste, I wouldn't have no taste at all.

Other than the 'midi-chlorians', I enjoyed all 6 movies.  I can't believe I am the only one.
No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.
The Centauri learned this lesson once.
We will teach it to them again.
Though it take a thousand years, we will be free.

I've got to say, the wheels started coming off around Return of the Jedi, for me.  I wanted to like it, but I kept thinking been there, done that.  I'm sorry, but another Death Star just isn't all that menacing since I already watched them destroy the first one.

Anyone that draws an opinion on what i think about George or his MOVIES would likely be wrong. I have commented that his original animation was pretty childish in my view, but then so is most animation these days...including The Simpsons. The film I have seen of this CGI attempt was unimpressive to me. Anyone thinking there will EVER be a definitive version of Star Wars simply doesn't know or understand George Lucas, as long as George Lucas is still alive ( and perhaps even after he is gone) Star Wars will be an endlessly evolving story. For those of you totally unfamiliar with this concept, going ALL the way back to the earliest releases of Satra Wars on LD and Videotape, no TWO releases are the same. The first of the LD releases was Pan & Scan, then they went to a Letterboxed release, then the first AC-3(DD) set right down through his final "Ultimate Star Wars for LD. We will all be buying whatever version of Star Wars releases, including this one, I am currently waiting to try and determine what has been done to make this rellease different from the rest aside from Cover Art and "new" names.

A definitive edtion...never going to happen.

I am amazed!  I think the final light saber battle was one of the most impressive and well choreographed scenes I have ever watched.

While I did not care for most of Menace, I was happy to see Star Wars back.  As for the other two I enjoyed them very much.
