The List of Adrian Messenger is available in the U.K., I just ordered it tonight from Amazon U.K.
So is Our Man in Havana, Twins of Evil, The Night of the Generals, A Study in Terror & Night of the Eagle.

I can't understand why there are such variations between R1 and R2. As I understand, R1 mostly has more than anyone else, so I guess I shouldn't complain. Still, Our Man in Havana at least is a very prominent flick with major stars from both sides of the pond, and with a screenplay as well as the original novel by Graham Greene. Why no DVD hereabouts? The Night of the Generals is also well known, and was available on VHS tape. Admittedly the other three are more obscure. (I think Night of the Eagle is known sometimes as Burn Witch Burn, title of the Fritz Leiber novel on which it was based.)

Speaking of things which have been on VHS: Diary of a Mad Housewife has, I think, career-best performances from Carrie Snodgrass, Richard Benjamin, and even Frank Langella, who had (and still has) a long career ahead of him. Why no DVD?

La mort en direct, a.k.a. Deathwatch, based on a novel with various titles of which The Continuous Katherine Mortenhoe is my favorite, was once announced, but never seems quite to have made it to DVD. Now this is what I call good science fiction (despite that idiot title Deathwatch).

The Ursula Andress version of She even had a widescreen VHS tape -- why no DVD? We do have the considerably more obscure Helen Gahagan version, even colorized....

DUDE!  Thanks a million!  The Giant Claw is a GREAT beer and popcorn and beer film.  It's one to watch with Terror of Tiny Town and Billy the Kid vs. Dracula!

I'll add my desire for The African Queen.  I'd especially love to see Criterion do a release of the film.

I'll leave off my list stuff that had an R1 release and is now oop, and just try to list stuff that's never seen a DVD R1 release (to my knowledge anyway, and some of these do have an R2).  I realize a lot of these are TV movies no one else may care about, but I'd love to have them.

Movies
Battle Royale (I have 2 different imports, but would love to have a R1)
Genji Monogatari (The Tale of Genji, 1987)
Gokiburi-tachi no Tasogare (Twilight of the Cockroaches)
The Incredible Journey (1963)
Lady Caroline Lamb
Song of the South

TV movies
Casanova (1987)
The Count of Monte Cristo (1975)
The Man in the Iron Mask (1977)
Nightlife (1990)
Pursuit (1989, aka Twist of Fate)
Wallenberg: A Hero's Story

OAVs
Ai no Kusabi (1992) (never released in stores, available only by special order through June magazine in Japan, and my third-gen fansub is soooo old ... )
Kindan no Mokushiroku Crystal Triangle (Crystal Triangle)
Ningyo no Kizu (Mermaid's Scar)
Ningyo no Mori (Mermaid Forest)

TV shows
Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon Stars
Island Son (1989-90)
Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon
Jungle Taitei & Jungle Taitei Susume Leo (Kimba the White Lion & Jungle Emperor Leo, 1965-67)
Ribbon no Kishi (Princess Knight, 1967-68)

I'd also like to see an uncut and subtitled release of the 4 Uchu Senkan Yamato series, and a quality release of the related 5 movies (cause the one we got is terrible).

Danae Cassandra, you need to get yourself set up with a PAL-enabled region-free DVD player.

Kimba the White Lion
Jungle Emperor Leo
The Count of Monte Cristo (1975)
The African Queen

...and it looks like Battle Royale is out in R1
link

... I only looked up those few, but there are bound to be some more in R2/R4.  btw, I found Twilight of the Cockroaches on VHS years ago, and was hugely underwhelmed by it.

The Incredible Journey (1963) is now a Disney Movie Club exclusive.  I suppose that means there is at least a slight possibility it will eventually see wide release.  At the very least, it means that it will start showing up on eBay and Amazon marketplace soon.

There are a few I would like to see but right now I can't think of too many.

Eliminators (I'd post a link to it but I thought the site I wanted to link from wasn't allowed here) A sci-fi flick circa 1986 with Denise Crosby just before landing on the Enterprise with ST:Next Gen.

The Original movie version of Max Headroom and the TV series as well.

Oh and also the 1969 The Cube by Jim Henson no muppets, and not the same as the Canadian Cube Horror/suspense series.

If I think of more I'll post here.

That is strange; for a long time the Japanese studio didn't want to have these released in the US. I would guess it's region free imports, also because they are only available at one supplier (e.g. DVD Empire doesn't have them).

Do you know anything about the transfer of the two Jungle Taitei series?  Because if it is simply a transfer of the old VHS tapes of the American dub (which is what we got in R1 for the few episodes that got released), then that's not what I would want.  I would want it unedited and with a Japanese language track.  That's the same problem I have with the Uchu Senkan Yamato R1 releases.

I do know there is a R2 for The Count of Monte Cristo & The African Queen, but I would still love to see an R1.  Don't have money or room right now for another piece of equipment to get a R2 PAL player.

And, as for Battle Royale, those are definitely import, one is the Hong Kong release and the other is the Korea release.  I have both.  The Korea release has much worse English subtitles but a better picture than the Hong Kong one.  The Korea release also has extras - too bad they have no English subtitles (my Japanese is not that good).  If I had an R2 player, I could get one of the UK releases, which have good subtitles and subbed the extras, but they were converted film->NTSC->PAL, so there is apparently a ghosting effect on the disc.  So you see why I want an R1.
