I got some spare computers, but I'm afraid they will not be good enough to run Windows7. And this one will stay XP operated untill there is a really new version of Windows and by that time I might have used up another couple of computers.

Somebody posted a pirated copy of the beta on the net a few days ago.  Be very careful that you don't inadvertently install that because it may not functional correctly and it can't be updated.

The word is that Windows 7 is nothing more than a fixed version of Vista dialed back to be more stable and reliable, and supposedly faster.

Microsoft has also extended XP a second time for builders -- until mid 2010 or 1 year after the release of Windows 7, whichever is first.

Installed Build 7000 here on a VMWare session, the UAC nag now seems to have a more granular control (and more easier settable), I can't yet seem to see how to switch to the old stile 2000/XP Start menu, other than its Vista with a few tweaks, not tried to see if they have fixed the file copy bugs yet or if the Network browssr as ias broken as Vista's

I don't think it's a pirated version. I installed that version last wednesday. I received my license key this morning. It accepted it, and I was able to activate it. Also Windows Update is functioning normally.

Updating headshots still works as expected. Export to XML also works and the format has not changed, since I was still able to import it in MovieCollector.

It was a pirated copy of a daily build of the first beta, posted on Bit Torrent.  Got a warning about it in one of my tech newsletters.  That was partly the impetus for MS to release the first beta when they did.

If you installed build 7000 you don't have to reinstall. It's identical to the leaked version.

Mind you the only 'upgrades' that have made any difference to me are the ability to search the start menu and the fact most current games create an icon in the games folder. Both because I'm too lazy to actually file things properly myself. 

Oh and DX10 is nice, but by no means really essential.

The biggest problems with Vista when it was first released are;

1. File copy bug (took an insane long time just to copy files) fixed in SP1.
2. Users trying to upgrade systems running XP, just didn't have the hardware to handle the new operating system.
3. Users trying to upgrade systems running XP, had older applications and drivers that were not Vista compatible.
4. UAC is crap, created more issues than it helped solve (in my opion).

That being said I have several newer computers running Vista and have no issues with any of them.  Also, have several computers running XP and don't have issues with them as well but, wouldn't upgrade them to Vista.
