Luckily I decideded to store my digitized collection in a flat folder structure. With Open Media Library I can browse the collection through Media Center (where I also watch TV, photos, play music, stream internet TV etc) using the standard filters on the movie metadata provided by DVD Profiler.

It's so much easier when you use a system matching reality instead of trying to make reality match the system. And in reality, a movie can fit in multiple genres.

I'd place it in Horror. Although it has Sci-Fi undertones, it's primarily designed to scare the crap out of you...which it does a very good job of doing .

That sounds like my collection ... only the exact opposite way.  As it's grown larger, I've found myself breaking it up and spreading it out, at least DVD wise. 

Right now I have around 1700 CDs, all shelved alphabetically by author or composer, with soundtracks and compilations by the name of the disc - at least, those that will fit on my two shelves.  Soon I'm going to have to take them all off the shelf and put them in tubs for the time being, because they're in the way of the panel that has to come off to get my new water heater installed.  But when I put them back up I'm planning to break them into some very general genre groupings - and ruthlessly purge so that I can get everything on the shelves again.

And I've had to do the same thing with the DVDs.  They used to all be pure alphabetical by title, with only the anime separated out on its own shelf.  But I ran out of room for shelves in my living room, so now there's a shelf of box sets in my bedroom and another with all my Star Trek DVDs, more box sets inside hollow ottomans, and a shelf of animation & documentaries in the hall as well as a wire rack with my Criterion Collection on it.

Much like VibroCount, I've found it to be impossible to maintain a consistent genre classification across the board. Right now, I have a bit of a mixed bag with some clear-cut genres (e.g. music DVDs, documentaries) still separate and the rest in alphabetical order. With CDs it's alphabetical followed by compilations and then a separate classical music section which has the same structure (composers listed alphabetically and then the compilations).

As Northbloke says this is indeed possible. Below is a modified version of the code I use that provides a link to a trailer on the PC.  You don't mention what format your media is in so I made it for vob files, its easy enough to change it to whatever you need.  First create a tag called 'on pc' (without quotes) then make a new html window and paste the code below into it:

Tag any profiles that you have on your HDD and a link will appear in the html window.  Don't forget to change the bit in red to whatever path your media is at (making note of the double slashes).  Also, I rename my trailers with the collection number they have if profiler so if you want to name them the title they have in profiler you should replace the bit in green with DP_Title.  If you're media is in different formats give me a shout and I'll post up something else.  Be sure to check out the LoadDVD plugin still as it may be more to your liking.
