I just heard this morning that there are some possible changes in 1099 Forms, in fact a lot of companies are delaying the sending out of 1099s so they don't have to do them twice. One of the area gurus (Ric Edelman, he may have commented on this on his websiet ricedelman.com) here suggested that you wait until March 1 , just to avoid possibly having to do them again if there are changes.

Thanks for the headsup Skip, but this won't affect me .

My income tax is about the same every year, I have no deductions, everything has been paid off for years
I always wait till the last minute, not that it is complicated or I owe a lot of money, but I might die and
somebody else can screw it.

I hate reading government forms. I use to have program that if feed a document into it, it would tell the number of years of education it would take to understand it. I used it to make sure what I wrote was comprehensible.

Government documents, you should live so long.

Reminds me of a book I still have somewhere. It's called the Form Book, and it's full of completely nonsensical forms, including a fake tax form, a fake writ, a Form to Get to Know a Civil Servant (with questions like "Do you have a dog? If not, why?"), a Form to offer your apologies after misconduct during a party (wth phrases like "I should never have..." [tick appropriate box] weed on your banzai trees, a Gossip Form (Did You Know That...) etc. etc.

Don't have my W2 yet, but I'm hoping to get enough back to have a bit of work done (I need a new back door) and go to Antietam & Fredericksburg/Spotsylvania this spring ... we'll see how it goes.

A Civil War buff? Hope you make it .

Really looking forward to our prospecting trip...been planning it for a year. Now...where's that snake-bite kit   .

You've got it right!  We (my mom & I) went to Shiloh, Corinth and Brice's Crossroads on our last big vacation in 07.  Last year things were such that we couldn't afford the overnight trip, but we did get to Perryville and are planning to go back this year for the battle anniversary weekend if nothing else.

I was going to recommend going to Pamplin Historical Park in Virginia if Danae's a CW buff, but I see from an article in the Richmond Times Dispatch that Pamplin Park's cut back on hours due to the financial state of affairs.  We went last fall, and I highly recommend the program (if it's open).

I'll be sure to check into that if we do get to go to Virginia this year.  I also want to go to Harper's Ferry and Jackson's Mill.  It would be awesome if I can get enough money put aside to just run around from site to site this spring, but we'll see how it goes.

My friend Sharon (a Ren-faire costume maker) has promised to make us Civil War dresses to wear for Perryville's battle anniversary weekend, and I'm quite excited about that.
If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world.

I got my Turbo Tax software today, just waiting my W-2 to get here. My company seems to always wait till the last minute. Have fun on the trip 8ball! Can I borrow 5 bucks?

Turns out my w-2 came in on Friday, but when receiving my paycheck they forgot to give it to me, so I got it yesterday and finished up my taxes. I owe Uncle Sam $42, would have been more, but with my 401k I get a nice deduction and I get money back from the state.
We're on a mission from God.

Well Sports Fans...If you live in the "Golden " state of California like I do, don't expect to get your State Tax refund anytime in the near future. Instead of receiving your refund check, expect to receive instead...an IOU from the State .

Yeah, right . I was expecting to apply the refund to my Metal Detector purchase which I will now have to postpone. This makes no sense at all. How is this supposed to help the already failing California economy? Most folks that receive a refund from the state put it right back into the economy thus bolstering it. Try calling your phone or utility company and ask them if they'll accept an IOU. They'll laugh you all the way to court. What a way to run a state.

And if you pay them late...

If I pay my taxes late, what interest and penalties will I be charged?

An underpayment penalty will be charged when taxes are not paid by the due date. The penalty is 5 percent of the unpaid tax as of the due date plus 1/2 of 1 percent each month, or part of a month the tax remains unpaid, not to exceed 40 months. The maximum penalty is 25 percent of the total unpaid tax.

A delinquent penalty will be charged on unpaid taxes if a return is filed late. The penalty is 5 percent of the unpaid tax due for every month that the return is late, up to a maximum penalty of 25 percent of the unpaid tax. The minimum penalty is $100 or 100 percent of the unpaid tax, whichever is less.

There are also other penalties that can be imposed such as for a check returned for insufficient funds, negligence, substantial understatement of tax and fraud.

Interest will be charged on any delinquent or late payment from the original due date of the return to the date paid. In addition, if other penalties are not paid within 15 days of the date of the notice, interest will be charged from the date of the billing notice until the date of payment. Interest compounds daily and the interest rate is adjusted twice a year.

If you submitted your taxes electronically and the IRS accepted them by the 18th (and maybe as late as the 22nd), check your bank balance.  I wasn't expecting my return to be deposited until around midnight tonight but it came in last night.

Still waiting on my W-2.

For some reason it's really late this year.
Last year I got it by the 3rd week of January.

And with the economy in a hatbasket, a lot of folks are going to find out the hard way that their employers just kept the money they withheld from their income for taxes....and didn't pay the IRS.  Problem is, the IRS will come after the employees for it since the employers have high-priced lobbyists.

Finally got mine on Saturday.

I did my federal taxes today (took about 5 minutes) and will be sending them off tomorrow.

I also did my state, but I owe them under $10. So they can wait till April to get more of my money.
