I had written a simple db for mystery pocket boolks .I had a habit of reading them on the many trips solving computer problems. Paperback books like DVDs now were always being re-releasing titles with new covers. Since I liked to collect all of certain authors to keep track of them, thus the db using Borland and ALGOL.

Then a little more complicated db for my growing collection classical music and jazz CDs.
Laser discs where not much of a problem , but I modified a version of the music db for them.

Then sometime in early 2000, when I about a 100 DVDs, I ran across the DVD Profiler, tried it, like it, so I bought in May 2000. One of the best $25.00 I ever spent on a computer program.

You people think the forum get nasty now, back then I made a contribution which I clicked on the Comedy tick instead of the Classic tick and the forum faithful rant and raved for day and days about lmy inage and ineptitude. I didn't say a word I just let considered the source.

I use a xls to list my movie/game and now I use DVDP and still use my old xls for my games

I had a list of DVDs I made up with MS Word.  Had around 400 when I found Profiler in 2004.    My how my hoard hath grown... 

When I realized I had way to many dvd's to keep track of just using paper and pen, I started using DVDSpot starting in March 2007.  Until the founder decided to sell to CNet and CNet promptly closed it in October 2008.  I loved the Spot.  Easy to use.  I decided to go with DVDProfiler over the others and it's the best choice I could've made.  Only gripe about Profiler is the re-releases.  DVDSpot allowed re-release covers/entries.  I hate having to "keep it local" on the application, only to see the online have a different cover than the one I bought.  Anywho, best $30 I've spent in a long time.

I used a word list until I discovered DVDPro (and I cannot even rememebr how now!) and still lost track and duplicated some! DVDP has helped eliminate some of that but I and nearly 1000 to capture when I first got it. Now I wonder how I managed back then!

I had a simple Excel sheet for my 30-40 DVDs before I knew nothing about DVD Profiler. I did not track any purchase history or other personal information. Just a simple list of titles, and I had to confess: one of the Excel sheet columns was a link to IMDb.

Then I spotted somewhere information about DVDP, wasn't even looking for solution for keeping track of my DVDs. That was June 2004. I didn't even consider myself a collector then. However, I registered immediately and found my inner collector. Without DVDP I don't think I would have these almost 1000 DVDs today.

I used MS Access for my movies (starting with VHS recordings from TV), then a colleague turned me on to DVDP with the words "Look, totally simple, you just enter the UPC and all information is there!".
Still keeping my Access DB because it allows me to do custom queries...

I had a flat field database on my Psion for CDs and Videos which started with DVDs when they came along. I have been using DVD profiler for a good while now when I think about it. I hate to think how much time it has saved me over the years. As such it represents a fantastic investment.
