Maybe it also depends on the drive used, but I had quite some problems with VLC when trying to play DVDs which use ArCCoS copy protection (for example "Eine schrecklich nette Famile" (Married...with children). From season four on I had lots of hang-ups when I tried to select an episode in the episode-selection menu or when I tried to fast-forward the opening sequence.

Although I did not experience similar myself, VLC may have issues with certain configurations. I did not test each function purposely with each and every DVD.

widescreenforever however implied, that you have to install additional software in order to play DVDs with VLC, which is not true.

And: it surely does not take "sooo" long to open a disc. VLC opens a disc as fast as MPC-HC or KMPlayer. Which means immediately.

While I completely understand it could be my PC or settings or something, and given I only tried 4 DVDs, VLC was incredibly slow in just about every way. I would hit the skip chapter button and sometimes it would sit there for about 10 seconds or so. I would hit the menu button and it would hang for 30 seconds to 2 minutes. Once it took 10 minutes. Sometimes I couldn't click options on the screen to go to the "Extras" menu. I could click forever and the program would do nothing.

I don't doubt that it is probably something of a rare case or maybe I am missing some downloadable add-on to make things work smoother. But I really am the type that just wants to download a program, maybe update it, but if I have to search out specific stuff just for it to work properly, I'll probably look elsewhere.

So in a nutshell, VLC just wasn't for me (or maybe my PC). KMP has worked fantastic and would whole heartedly recommend it to anyone at this point.
